Default Radio Compatibility

Has anyone used another year's radio (WITH THE SAME FEATURES) in their 6th gen? For example... The have a single disc 06 that failed and the only one they could find was one from an 04 and they used it and it worked? Any stories like that?

The car I'm working on here is a late production date 05 and the radios are just too few and too expensive, I don't have any other ones or I'd do the testing myself here, it seems I can get an 04 single disc radio at a reasonable price in comparison to 05's, but my computer says they are different... Has anyone experimented with radios before??

If it is a non-BOSE unit, the cheapest route would be to through a single disc aftermarket unit in there. You should be able to get a cheap unit with dash kit for under $100 bucks. Otherwise, I would think that the 04-06 radios are all the same...only difference being BOSE vs non-BOSE.

My bad guys, I should have stated, aftermarket is not an option for us at this juncture.

I have a 6.5 gen, NOT a 6th gen, but I can't see where the radios would be different betweent those 3 model years...

I would think they are the same but call the dealer to be sure.

But you gotta watch out on the older Bose CD players/Radios. They are pretty notorious for encountering problems with the drivers side cutting out. It's a small solder deep inside and not worth trying to get to. I got an 05 it finally end up going bad as well.

Check the classified section, craigslist and ebay.

^ See like this....

For 4th gens, it list the radios as different and doesn't mention anything about compatibility, but we KNOW for a fact that you can swap those things out left and right all day, as long as you stick to Bose or Non bose, you can even mix-match bose/no bose just your sound quality will suffer.

Again, my system is pretty anal about part # differences, if they changed one tiny resistor then it's going to say the parts are different and not mention anything about compatibility.

If the customer and parts were all local, I'd be willing to risk time and money on this, but since the part, me, customer are in 3 different places then I really can't risk it right now.
