Default New Deck Suggestions!

I haven't been into car audio in years but since getting my '06 a few weeks ago it's been begging for a touchscreen dvd deck in that big open spot and I need suggestions. Some things to get an idea of what I'm looking for.
- I heart steering wheel controls so compatibility for them is a must
- backup camera compatible preferred
- fixed double din screens only, not interested in flip out
- Navigation: I can live with using my phone for in car navigation
- Bluetooth compatibility
- I could care less about any type of satellite radio, in fact the quality of the
radio tuner is the least of my concern as I only really listen to mp3s.
- Price point: $300-350 tops for just the unit itself

I haven't mentioned screen size as I really don't know what our cars can hold.

Thanks!

I should have specified more clearly, nav isn't a must have. Real nice looking deck but price for that is way out of my range.

Yup! It has everything you want. The downside is that the screen is motorized and it's $150 - $175 more than what you want to pay. But it is a great unit!

For the loot it seems like its got a lot of features for the right price point. I just paid 1300.00 for the same functions.

I had the 4400 for a little while. I bought it new and was able to exchange it for the 8400. It has a lot of features, but I really wanted a bigger screen. The resolution on the 8400 is so much better. The only thing I really like on the 8400 is dual USB ports. I can keep my ipod in the glove box and I ran another ipod cable under my center console so now I can charge my iphone or even this to music off of my USB drive.

Not bad, but I'd go for the updated AVH-P4400BH.

So I caved, ordered the Pioneer AVH-8400BH. The videophile in me couldn't pass over the higher res screen and a few other key features over the 4400. (Cartman voice) I hate you guys.

One question: is there a memory size limit for the sd card slot (16/32/64gb, etc.)? Most likely that's how I'll be playing my mp3s.

Thanks for the help!

You won't be disappointed! I'm not sure about a card size limit, but I doubt there is one.

I'm splicing together my wiring harnesses and am confused with a few of the wires. FYI I have the non bose stock system and have no aftermarket amps, subs, etc. besides this head unit. These questions are specific to the Pioneer AVH-8400BH but I'm sure any of you that have done an install can help.

On Pioneer harness:
1. yellow/black stripe=mute, do we have one?
2. orange/white stripe= connect to lighting switch terminal. Now, on my Metra wiring harness there's an orange (illumination/dash light) and orange/black stripe (dimmer ground). Does any of these need to be spliced together? Or do I need to go into my dash and find lighting wires?
3. purple/white stripe=reverse gear signal input. Is that only connected when a rear view camera is installed? I'm not planning on buying one yet.
4. blue/white stripe=system remote control. Is it only connected with an external amp?

Metra wiring harnesses:
1. Blue/white stripe= amp turn on, not used?
2. black/white stripe=amp ground, not used?
3. orange and orange/black stripe= see Pioneer harness #2, where do they go?
4. blue=power antenna, haven't seen one on the car but asking anyway, lol

That should do it. Also, is there more than one type of Metra bezel for a double din install? The one I bought states it's silver but it's noticeably darker than my stock one. Also, for those 8400 owners was there any modifications needed to the bezel for the HU to fit? Thanks

No on the mute wire. I never worry about hooking up illumination wires.
I thought the reverse wire was green/white. Blue/white is for amps only.

As far as the Metra harness only hook up what you have wires for.

As far as the bezel @officerfrasher could help with that. I have an 07.

As far as I know, there's only one Metra dash kit for a double din for our cars. And yes, the color is probably a little different, that's just the way it is. And I did have to modify the dash piece. I had to cut out the thin piece between the top of the HU and the bottom of the HVAC controls. It just wouldn't fit right otherwise.

Thanks, last question; is there an easy way to tap into the parking brake or does that whole center console need to come out? I tried just pulling the cup holders but it seems to be attached from under the armrest.

You could always wire a switch up, and tuck the switch where it can't be seen. There is also said to be a way to hook up a box relay, where every time you turn the car on, it clicks that relay on, and thus "activating" the parking brake
