Default Need A New Sound System

Ok so I'm planning to upgrade the sound system in my car. I want it to have good bass but have it sound clear and not distorted. I have the stock Bose with navigation and it is an 07. I've read on this forum that it is more dificult to do a setup on an 07. So which setup do you guys recommend? It included speakers/subwoofers, HU, amp. Price isn't really an issue but I don't want to spend thousands either.

I have an 07 with Bose, without NAV. It isn't any harder/easier than an 04-06...since you are replacing everything and totally ditching the Bose, it is pretty easy. I've got almost $2K into mine, and it is nothing extremely exotic. I'm running 1600w RMS between 3 amps. I've only got 2-8" subs in the back. They are perfect for rounding out the bass without letting people 4 blocks away know that you are coming. I've only got a single din head unit...no DVD player or NAV player.

But would I still be able to keep the info screen like the ac? Or would putting in a new HU disable the screen? That's around the price I was looking to spend, nothing extreme.

What is your setup?
Yes your AC screen will still work but the info screen won't unless you get the NIrD or do what I did...plugged in the stock radio and stashed it behind the dash. I can't really use it but it still shows when doors or trunk is open. I don't care about the rest.

I have a Kenwood 9980hd, Image Dynamocs 450.4, Image Dynamics 1200.1, JL Audio C5's for the front, Orion 6x9 for rear fill, 2 10" Alpine Type R subs, Audio Control EQS and Monster Cable for every thing. I have a full custom install in my trunk as well...no trunk left, plus it's ported into the car. I have a lot of time and money in my system.

I have all Rockford fosgate Power series components in my Z, 2 500rms amps and 2 1000 rms Rockford fosgate amps, with 1 and 4 gauge Rockford wiring. Sounds super beast! Running of a Jensen vm9424 Headunit and 2 Rockford fosgate p3 10's in a custom box.

Couple grand into mine as well, quality isn't cheap

You need the Metra NIRD-01 unit if you still want your info screen to function. Otherwise, as mentioned above, you would need to keep your stock radio installed and hide it behind the dash.

That's tough, everyone has their own preferences, etc. What's your price range?

Yeah Mando's right, speakers are very subjective. What sounds good to me sounds like crap to you.

Id look at JL, Alpine Type X Pro or Ref, maybe some Rockford stuff, Polk makes some nice affordable stuff as well.

As far as subs, find your amp first then match your subs to the specs of the amp. That way you'll know what configuration to buy your subs.

I would search caraudio, com, becareful there not to nice to newbies but there's a lot of info. Research and look at the non name brands, usually they offer better products at a lesser price. For big name brands your paying a premium just for the name.

Everybody beat me to it...speakers are a VERY subjective thing...what I think are great, you may hate. I ended up going with a set of Morel Dotech Ovation 6 components for the front doors. I wanted a NICE set of front speakers. I got a set of ARC co-ax's for the rear doors...I think they are 6025's. I have two HERTZ 8" boxed subs in the trunk. They thump plenty loud when I want them to, but I wasn't looking for teeth-rattling bass (I'm 40yrs old!...passed that stage!!!) I just wanted something to nicely round out the bottom end!

I'm running one ARC KS300.4 bridged to the front components, one ARC KS300.4 bridged to the subs, and one ARC KS125.2 MINI to the rear doors. This still leaves me with a little bit of trunk space, and a very nice sounding system. I'm powering it all off of a Kenwood Excelon X993 head unit.

If you want higher-end stuff that is a little off of the beaten path, then you want to look at Morel, Hertz, DynAudio...they make GREAT speakers, but they are not cheap.

I pulled my rear deck speakers (6x9"s) and did not replace them. This allows my subs to "vent" into the cabin of the car. My thought was to buy a really nice set of comps for the front, since you want your soundstage in front of you. I bought a much cheaper set of co-ax's for the rear doors just for fill, and so my kids would be able to have some music!!!

Rockford, POLK, JBL, Cadence, CDT, etc....all make some nice stuff. When I put my system together, I wanted something a little higher-end that not "everybody" was running.

Crutchfield's house brand (Sound Ordnance) is some cheaper equipment that seems to get some good reviews...
