Default Kenwood DNX9990HD Install Photos

Could someone please help me out. I just bought (should arrive on Tuesday) the Kenwood DNX9990HD and need to reach out to the family here to see if someone could share pictures of the install of this radio. Im really anal when it comes to aftermarket installs and want a very clean install that would flow with the rest of the interior of the car. My fear is that it will have gaps that would go the whole way around the radio and not look right. If you can also tell me what install kit was used that would help as well.

Thanks to anyone that replys

Plan on keeping the trip computer screen? If so then you need this.
Axxess NIRD-01 Nissan Maxima/Sentra Bluetooth Retention Interface

Don't care about the trip computer? Then this will do.
Metra 71-7552 (met-717552) Reverse OEM Radio Harness for Select

Plan on using your existing steering wheel controls with you new head unit? If so then one of these should do.
PAC SWI-JACKv1 (swijackv1) Steering Wheel Interface Adapter that

Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface

Plan on using the FM radio or powering the remote on the bose amp? Then you need one of these.
Metra 40-NI12 (met-40ni12) Antenna Cable to Aftermarket Radio

Don't want any gaps around the radio? This will take care of that. Otherwise use the brackets from the stock radio.

I have the kenwood 9980 and there are gaps all around, and it doesn't sit flush. I'll try to post a pic later on.

If youre installing a double din you do not need an install kit. I used the stock brackets and mine looks nice.

Do you have any pictures that you can share.

I'd love to see a view from all angles if possible.

Whelp, I got it in installed and really for the money spent am not impressed with this radio.

Coming from a non bose system I felt I got more volume out of the factory radio then the new one. Do you guys feel the same or is it just me. I feel like I have to turn it up to 25 to get to same level as 15 on the factory unit. Yes its clear and musical but it just doesn't have the volume that I was expecting.

The damn nird1 was a pain in the ass, the pins in the connector to the factory plug kept popping out on the speakers and power. Quality in the nird1 has gone down hill.

swijack was easy to install but a pain to program, thank god for crutchfield.

Thanks to Crutchfields 60 day return policy it might be going back in 59 days. LOL

I had this same issue with the last HU I had. I had the HU in my previous Altima and would usually listen to it at 22. When I put it in the Max I had to turn it up to 40 to get the same volume output. With the new HU I just installed I can listen to it at 18. I have no idea how that works.

Are you using just the HU power? If so that's part of the problem. These high end units come with high voltage per outs for a reason.

James ( officerfrasher) and I have the same HU and I guarantee they sound nothing alike. I feed my speakers a lot of very clean power and it makes a HUGE difference. You can stand out side my car with all the windows closed and you can hear it just as clear as in the car.

Now, I'm not bragging I'm just saying to get good clean high end sound you have to spend a little more.

I have this one hooked exactly the same as the old one. I'm using the Bose amp for the door speakers.

First start off with some nice RCA cables for all channels, some really good 4gauge power and ground cables. A really, really good set of front comp speakers, don't skimp here. Lastly a good 2 or 4 channel amp, I run 4 channels. I also run an external Audio Control EQ and line driver.

Spend some time tuning it to your liking and then sit back and enjoy.

Now once again this is not bragging but I probably have more invested in cabling than most people put into their whole system. I have a ton of time and money in my system and I'm very proud of it. Luckily for me I can do it all myself and save a ton of money.

I'd be happy to help anyone design a system if they needed help.

I got some of it done ever since I took my second battery out, I have all Rockford Fosgate 1 gauge wiring including rf rca's, I sold my rf components and went back to stock maybe that's the problem :/ I'll get some
New speakers in about a week and see how that goes, but true, most people don't know how important wiring is when it comes to audio

Likewise^^^ !!!! I got all my friends into it, too bad it doesn't make much money in the job world, or else I would've been doing audio for the rest of my life, I install my friends systems for free just because I love doing it!

What type of interface are you guys using for the steering wheel controls. the PAC that I have has lag and its driving me nuts when you want to go back a song. I've read that different brands do not have this issue. Axxess for one is said to be lag free. Anyone else confirm that?

Thanks.

I use PAC as well. I have a slight lag as well. To be honest its very minor and its never really bothered me.

I have the pac as well. It has the half second lag issue among other things. My issues with the steering wheel controls partially working or not working at all i suspect is a grounding issue. Grounded it to the big metal pipe in the dash with a pipe clamp. On a hot summers day or, after i run the heater for a while in the winter, usually is when i have the issues with the steering wheel controls not working. One day i may relocate the ground to a lower point inside the dash.
