Default Installing Aftermarket Deck, Replacing Bose, Retaining Steering Control

Hi,

There have been some previous post like this but no one have exactly explained in detail.
I have 07 Nissan Maxima with Bose system. I am planning to replace it with a Kenwood Double Din Deck but problem is, I want to retain the Steering Wheel Control and Trip/Info. Is this something possible?

Please advise

What about trip info?
My stereo unit is like this
http://www.originalcaraudio.com/Niss...es/Ni157_1.JPG
so the trip info button is right on the stereo where as on some maxima its not on the stereo.

And would you be able to know how hard is it to replace the Bose with an Aftermarket one? Like speakers wiring and stuff? Or is there a harness type that comes which I can use it without re-wiring all the speakers?

How much are you going to do? Are you running new speaker wire? It's not a hard project, but it is time consuming. It's a little tedious running all the wires and getting every thing set up. Have you done any ar audio work before?

If you're running all new wires you don't need a harness.

Default Re: Installing Aftermarket Deck, Replacing Bose, Retaining Steering Control

so basically from all the experts here....

It is Possible to:
1. Retain Trip/Info by using Axxess NIRD-01
2. Retain Steering Controls by using PAC SWI-JACK
3. Retain OEM Car Harness for Kenwood by using Metra 70-7553

So all this won't require any re-cabling for speakers and amp? It will be just plug and play thing, Am I right?
Where does the Trip/Info switch goes? The steering controls behind the stereo, it just a box. Trip/Info are buttons and module so it has to be at the front, but where? Do I need to change the plate/cover? What about bluetooth that I have in car? I know the bluetooth thing is in the same area where all the stereo and display screen is. Will that be retained or do I need any harness for that?

Thanks A LOT!!!

that's pretty neat.
I think I will do that too.

Regarding the Bose Factory Harness, I checked the thread link which "officerfrasher" provided. I visited the ebay link which was followed by clicking on the link:
Wire harness for Bose, non-Navigation: Metra 70-7553 eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Wire harness for Bose, Navigation: Metra 70-7553 eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
Apparently it says "This Harness Works On Factory System's With Factory Amp **Does Not Work With Factory Bose or Rockford Fosgate Systems**""

I do know there is an amp in my car somewhere hidden, and a Bose deck, but the link says "the harness does not work with factory bose", did I understand it right or wrong?

Also, Is there a specific Kenwood double din deck which takes all of these harness and plugs or I can just buy whichever I like and can use them?

Forgot to mention the bluetooth handsfree that my car has. What about, will it work after replacing to aftermartket deck?

The NIRD-01 allows you to retain your factory bluetooth AND info screen. There is a specific harness for the BOSE, but I'm not sure of the harness part number. I have an 07 w/Bose....I replaced EVERYTHING....wasn't that difficult.

The NIRD-01 will allow you to retain your factory bluetooth and the driver's information display. You don't mess with the driver's info display when you replace the stereo. If you don't use the NIRD, then the info screen will just be a blank screen. You are making this harder than it needs to be. If you want to keep your factory bluetooth, you will need the NIRD. MOST aftermarket radios will have bluetooth built in anyway, so if that is the only reason you are buying it, you may want to see if the radio you are buying has bluetooth built in. If it does, you can save yourself some money. I bought the NIRD because I didn't want to lose my info screen...I wanted it to keep functioning like normal. I don't use bluetooth...my kids are always in the car with me, and it would be impossible to talk on bluetooth with them jabbering away anyway.

The trip/info screen IS the driver's information screen....same thing... I used the PAC adapter to keep my steering wheel radio controls. PAC makes a specific adapter depending on the brand of radio that you are buying.

Are you replacing the head unit ONLY? Or are you replacing speakers too? How about an amplifier...are you going with an aftermarket amp, or do you plan on keeping the BOSE amp?

Shouldn't make a difference, just make sure you get the correct wiring harness for the radio...

You want to make sure to get the harness for the BOSE, not the Non-BOSE.

OK, from what I can find, it looks like that is the one you need. It should be a Metra Part #70-7553 . There is a note on the Amazon website that says to make sure your head unit has AT LEAST a 4v pre-out.

Frasher has a pretty informative thread here:
