Default re: Got Ripped Off On My Speakers..What Do I Do?? Help

This is the problem with most audio shops. I know of at least 6 people ( no exaggeration) who basically got ripped off from local mom and pop car audio shops. What can you do probably nothing. I know all the small places around my house have a no return policy. Go there and bitch and see what happens....

This is exactly why I learned to do it myself and I will not let any one but Best Buy touch my car. Why Best Buy you ask...I've never had one single issue, ever! If I did I'm sure they would make it right.

Just out of curiosity what kind of amp did you get for the speakers?

Curious how you got ripped off. They installed everything you bought? Correct. You just not happy with the sound quality rite?

Well then I take back what I said about getting ripped off becuase you didn't. You may have been mis informed or just didn't do enough home work.

You're not comparing apples to apples. While I'm not a fan of the Bose system, for a stock system it is decent. Remember the speakers are all amplified by a separate amplifier not the HU. HU power sucks. If you're looking for a good sounding system with decent mid bass and nice clean highs you need an amp...end of story. People see a HU puts out 50 watts...yeah 50 watts peak power. Probably around 11-20 RMS. That is nothing for a decent set of speakers.

Do yourself a favor, run a good quality 75-100 watt amp to the speakers, set a proper EQ on the HU and you'll love it.

Memphis makes a lot of stuff. What are the model numbers? Look them up and see for yourself. I don't think you'll be happy, but look any way. You're paying a bunch for labor.

I've been doing audio for 20 years. If you get you a good
4 channel amp. And take a little time to properly tune your new speaker to utilize
the sound and power. Your opinion will change. And you will be very happy.

Just get a descent alpine or jl audio type amp about 200 to 300 watts.
With the combination of you high pass filter controls on your head unit.
And the x-over controls on the amp. You should easily be able to get the
Crisp clean powerful sound you desire.

Misleading title, you didnt get ripped off, you were just unimformed about proper car audio. Now the prices you paid for those units I am not sure they a great price. you have if you look for them online yourself. As 07max said you may not be happy.

I do believe if you amp the interior you will be happier-ish

I wouls still get the model number to know the specs of the speakers. I know people that go to audio places and get ”speakers” installed but they don't know the model so I assume that sometimes.they install the lowest series or something like that.

Always do your own research, Almost everything in this country is a business. So what do businesses do? Sell you stuff, usually the most profitable and not necessarily the right or best product for your needs. The consumer(you) are responsible for what you purchase. You did not get ripped off, you just picked the wrong shop and wrong product to install on your car.

One of the biggest problems here is labor. Those that can't do...pay. That goes for every thing. There's nothing wrong with this. There are things on all my cars I wouldn't do, so I took it to some one who knew what they were doing to get it fixed right.

I had a reasonably high end system in my car, not super high end,but way more than most people. I probably saved 1000.00 or more by doing it myself. Best Buy doesnt do a lot of custom work and the place by me that does charges 80.00 an hour. That adds up quick.

Default Re: Got Ripped Off On My Speakers. What Do I Do?

All of this being said, you are doing yourself and your speakers a disservice if you don't dampen your front doors. I would use birch speaker rings on the front door speakers/woofers...you can run up to a 3/4" spacer depending on the top-mount dimensions of the speaker you are using. You also need to DynaMat the doors (or a similar product) to dampen the doors. I only did my front doors...for the rear, I just did the area directly around the speaker...I did the complete front doors...both the inner and outer panels. You will lose a lot of sound through the door panels if you don't dampen them...this will have greatest impact on your sound quality. You want the sound coming INTO the cabin of the car, not going OUT through the door panels...
