Default Dry Cell Battery Or Capacitor???

I have an 06 maxima with a JVC in dash and I am trying to hook up 2 12" Alpine Type R Subwoofer and a 1500.1 watt memphis audio amplifier. How should i go about this and also what size wiring should i use?

I know there is this on going battle about whether or not power caps work. I've never trieda high end battery ( very expensive) so I can't speak for them. What I can tell you is a power cap will work. I had 2 amps in the Maxima putting out around 1500 watts total. I tried a grounding kit with no real results,it helped but I still had dimming. So I went out and bought a decent power cap and hooked it up and it worked .... No more dimming. Is it a true fix or just a band aid, I don't know. All I know is that it worked for me. I didn't buy a swap meet cap. I bought a decent quality unit and it worked, it really worked.

I know you laugh, but if you go on a car audio forum and even talk about a cap, you'll be laughed out of there. It really is a big debate.

Normally a running car has 2 sources of power in parallel, the alternator and the battery. The primary purpose of the battery is to start the car, so that's all it's normally designed to do. Then you add amplifiers which draw large amounts of current, which is supplied by the alternator. OEM alternators are designed to charge the battery and run OEM equipment, so the current rating is rather low, maybe a little over 100A. When the bass hits, the amplifier draws more current which the alternator is barely able to handle, so the voltage drops a bit (which is seen as lights dimming). The idea of a capacitor is to supply short bursts of current to prevent these voltage drops, but capacitors discharge rather quickly so they aren't an ideal solution. An upgraded battery can help because it can supply some power when the alternator isn't enough and longer than a capacitor at the expense of charging a little slower than a cap. It also more than likely charges quicker than an OEM type battery thus removing that load from the alternator sooner. Although some batteries are designed to be used sort of like a cap, it would be another battery that the alternator has to keep charged.

What does all this mean? That the most correct way to approach this is to upgrade the primary source of power when the car is running, the alternator. Other than high gauge wiring (which doesn't help much if your power sources aren't able to handle the load), I'd say alternator>battery>cap. If you don't want to upgrade the alternator, then upgrade the battery first.
