Default Constant 12v Power Supply

I have installed a GPS tracker in my car. I tapped into the power cable to the boot lamp to provide a continuous 12v supply. Works well except every now and then when starting the car the voltage drops momentarily to the unit causing it to send a message telling me the power has been turned off. Need to find a better power supply that is not effected with car starting. Don't want to take a lead of the battery terminal because all is hidden from those nasty thieves etc. Any suggestion where to tap into to get a constant 12v supply would be greatly appreciated.

You could tap into the fuse panel that's on the lower left side of the steering wheel. But you're probably always going to have a slight voltage drop when starting the car. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

If I were you I'd use a rocker switch, much safer and no voltage drop if I'm not mistaken

I use the dome light by the rear view mirror for my phone dock. Maybe that is an option.

That's correct. Best bet is to do a combo of what has been said here....tap into the domes where there is a 12v source but add a switch so you can flip it off while starting the car or when not in use.

Firstly..Thanks to all who have replied. Don't want to put a switch because if I turn the tracker off just before starting and then turn back on it will sent a message stating power has been turned off. The slight drop in volts when starting is enough sometimes for the tracker to think power has been off and sends message. Will look further into power supply to radio and look at the fuse board options.
