Default Bi-Amping My Focal 165v30's

Hey Gang,
I was wondering if anyone out there is bi-amping there front set of component speakers. I'm considering bi-amping the front two with JL Audio XD400/4, and then getting another 4 channel amp for the back doors and rear deck speakers, which I've removed and left as vent's for my W7 in the trunk.

Current set up is Factory deck with LC6i connecting a Alpine MRP1000 to a 12"JL Audio W7
Focal 165v30's in the front doors amplified by JL XD400/4
Focal 165's in the rear doors amplified by the JL XD400/4.

I've dynamated the doors and the trunk.

Any suggestions on improvements or things you guys have done?

I'm also concerned that with a 3rd Amp I'm gonna have to upgrade the Alternator and that battery, both of which are stock right now.

I also would need new an LC8 and 6x9's for the back deck. You guys think this is worth it, for what I'd get out of all the work and $$$?

Thanks for any insights. I've got pictures in anyone wants to see any of this.

You're looking for suggestions why not do this. Get an aftermarket HU that allows you to run active. Then instead of bi amping just run them active. It will sound much better. If you don't want to buy a new HU look at electronic x overs and run active that way.

I think it's worth it if you have the woofer in the trunk.. My audio set up:

-Alpine IVA-W505 w/nav
-Alpine Type R 6.5 (Front & Rear Doors)
-OEM Tweeters
-Alpine 6x9 (Rear Deck)
-Power Acoustik BAMF Class A/B Series BAMF1200/4 Amplifier
-2 12" Alpine Type R
-2 Alpine MRD-M1005
-2 Savv LM-A7030W 7" Headrest Monitors
-Optima Yellow Top Battery

I have no compliants with my system and I highly suggest to put in rear deck speakers.. It'll make it sound 10x better.. Keep us updated on what you do decide though..

I don't think I would spend the money to Bi-Amp. I am guessing your amps have built in crossovers? If you want to improve I would also probably go with a new HU. Your car probably sounds pretty good now.

Are the Focal tweeters/Mid harsh or too bright? Pics, always post pics

I flush mounted the base control knob next to the TCS button. Highly recommended, looks stock and functions flawlessly.

My questions really is at biamping...i guess I don't understand it. I've heard it will allow my component set up front to really sing...giving them all the power of the XD400/4 vs. sharing it with the rear door speakers.

The Weathertech floor mats are great too in the Pacific Northwest where you are constantly in and out of the rain.

LED's all around, including rear brake and running lights. Just put that grille in with a new emblem.

What HU are you guys running? You guys got pic's? Please share if so. I'd also like to know about all the pieces required to keep the phone, steering wheel controls and computer running. That's why I haven't done it yet...looks like big dollar signs to me. I use a Garmin when needed.

thanks for the insights. Appreciated.

Very nice set up. Thanks for the pics.

Bi-amping will allow separate amp channel to the tweeter and the 6.5spkr.

I just don't see the need really, I don't think you will gain that much. My Eclipse HU and other too I'm sure will give you a higher voltage output than the stock HU.

You can keep your controls, I did. I forget the name of the device that lets you do that

You want the Metra NIRD-01 to keep your factory bluetooth and info screen. You'll need a PAC adapter for the steering wheel controls. Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on any speakers OR amps for the rear deck. Your soundstage should be in front of you, NOT behind you. All I use my rear door speakers for is fill, most of my sound is my front speakers.

That too has been my rational 1hawaii50. Which is exactly at the core of my question. Will bi-amping my front speakers give them more power then splitting them between the front door and rear door?

Amping the tweeter, and the 6.5 on each channel of the 4 channel amp, and perhaps getting a small 2 channel amp for the rear door speakers.

I'm running 3 amps in my setup. I've got 1 ARC KS400.4 bridged to the front doors (comps), I've got 1 ARC KS400.4 bridged to the 2-8" subs, and I've got 1 ARC 125.2MINI going to the rear doors. I'm pushing 300w/side to my front comps...no need to amp the tweets seperately.

I've got no dimming issues, and no charging issues....but I'm not running a monster honking sub amp either. My subs hit hard enough to "bump" when I want them to, but I typically don't have them that loud. They are loud enough that you know that they are there, but they don't totally overpower the rest of the system.

So bridge the XD400/4 to the front, and a smaller amp for the rear doors. I like it. What's your wiring like from the battery? 0 gauge and split? or each run individually to the amps? Got any pictures? Thanks.

Do you have a high output alternator? and deep cycle battery? When my W7 really hits I do get some dimming with the LED's I'm not fond of. It just seems too expensive to fix this minor problem the correct way. I'm going to upgrade my big 3 and see if that helps.

That's what I would recommend. I was running my factory battery until it gave up the ghost a few weeks back. I went to AutoZone and got a DuraLast Gold commercial battery for a replacement. I never had any issues running on my OEM battery, so I didn't see the need to spend the money for a deep cycle battery.

I do have a 7 wire, 1/0 grounding kit that I made myself, with a 1/0 +battery to + alternator wire. I've got the OEM alternator. The only electrical upgrades are the "big 3" and grounding kit.

I should have some pics here:

1Hawaii50's Never Ending Project!

I'm not sure if it shows my new head unit, or not...I've currently got a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X993. I highly recommend it if you want a single-din unit. The X994 has built in HD also.

Sweet ride Bro, on your front marker/turn lights do you like the led's? I find they put out WAY less light when you turn on signal. I switched my back to stock because of that. I have all LED's in the back with the same resistor's. But the front were just to dim on the side, I felt like I lost that side lighting when you hit the turn signals.

Yes, they are a little dimmer. VLEDs makes a 92 count light, but I think that one would be a little too big for the cornering light.

Yeah do 3 separate amps, then do a 2nd battery, you'll be happy.

I went the simple route and bought a PDX-5 and called it a day.

that pdx5 isn't going to take care of a W7 and all the Focals. They are all very hungry for power. My sub needs 600watts minimum. I figure at 3ohms it's getting about 750 from my Alpine amp, and 75x4 at 4ohms to my doors from the XD400/4.

A third amp and battery are the way to go. Agreed.

I might loose the cap. It was free, and thought it might relieve my alternator a touch.

I agree 5 channel amps just don't have enough power.

That W7 needs 1500 watts....

It's a 12"! I don't really listen to Rap either. I've got it right in the sweet spot.

It's a 1000Watt amp at 2ohms, I'm running it at 3ohms..so i figure 800 watts.

More voids the warranty...and loosens your fillings.

What does it being a 12" have anything to do with it?

I have an RE 12" rated at 1000RMS and I'm giving it around 1300... It loves it. I don't listen to cRap either, which is why you need that extra power. Trust me that sub will love 1000+ watts....
