Default Basic Speaker Upgrades

I'm looking for a basic upgrade to my non-Bose 08 SE speakers.

Keeping stock HU, no subs. Looking for more clarity and a little better low end from the speakers. If it matters, most of the music I listen to is hardcore/metal, so I don't need suuuper great lows, just a little more on the bottom end.

Would upgrading fronts only suffice? Or would all 4 be needed.

Would like to avoid an amp for now, as I can do that later, if needed.

I've messed around on Crutchfield, but to be honest, it's all names and prices. Audio is not an area where I have much experience. I know who the big names are, but as for quality and specs? Well, I don't know my ass from a hole in the ground.

Budget is TBD, I don't mind paying for quality, but don't feel like overpaying if I don't have to.

Thanks.

To be honest with out an amp don't expect any bass from just speakers. Mid bass from 6.5" speakers is very hard. It takes a good speaker, deadening and sealing the door and some power. Your best bet is a sub. Even a single 8" will fill in the bottom end a little bit.

if im not mistaken youre going to have to rewire the whole car to change speakers, usually aftermarket speakers come in different ohm's than the Bose system

Well poop. A sub is a no go. My trunk is full with baseball gear 9 months a year, so without some creativity (and subsequent budget which I do not have) a sub just wouldn't work.

Which amp would you guys recommend? I can live without any additional bass, clarity and a better depth of sound is the main goal. If I can do that with just speakers, cool. If not, I'm all ears.

.....pun slightly intended.

Not bad. I like the way you're thinking.

Thing is though, I've always got 6-8 helmets, a couple bats, buckets, etc...

Not only is there little room, but there's stuff that could break that sub easily.

I'm not trying to difficult, keep the ideas rolling!

Just buy an 8" or 10" Bazooka tube, line convertor and call it a day. Its not going to blow you away, but it will help with the lack of space you have.

Do yourself a favor and spend a little here. Look at some Hertz, JL Audio C5's are nice, Polk makes a decent speaker. Dont cheap out on the speakers.

You could mount a couple 8" subs to the rear deck and keep most of your trunk space. Check these out:

I'm very happy with it. It's not quite what a 12" sub would do, but it's not that far off either.

I went with the Focal Polyglass 165 V30 ($500 pair) for front an rear components and absolutely love them. But you don't need to spend that. Go listen to some speakers at your local audio place and find out what sings to you. Then...don't buy them there. Check Amazon or eBay so you don't end up paying the rent for that box store in your neighborhood.
You can get a decent 4 channel amp around $150. (JL 300/4v2 used on Craigslist) is a workhorse. I say stay with the proven brands, audiophiles may chime in here...but there is less uncertainty in performance.
