Default Audio Gurus, Need Help, Stock Bose With Nav

Im not an audio expert by any means so I need help in this area. Ive installed systems before but never with BOSE & Nav
I need advise to eliminate/solve my problems but by doing it fairly inexpensive would be great

Im equipped with Bose & Nav. I want to keep my Factory Nav, play Mp3's and to add icing to the cake, I would love steering wheel control as I have my hand on the shifter most of the time since I'm 6MT.

Here are my problems:
1. I've read that I have the option of complety tearing out my system and installing aftermarket everything, or I can buy (4) 2ohm Infinity speakers and replace my factory Bose speakers with these, < will this sound good? and is this a wise decision?

1. My right front speaker is no longer sounding crisp. I have a spare speaker from the rear door, (are they the same?)

2. I want to retain my factory Nav & Voice guide & Steering wheel controls. Even if I dont retain the steering wheel controls I can maybe live with that but I really want the voice guide. < With that comes a different problem. If i scrap the entire bose system just buy some nice front stage and rear speakers I need to wire up the voiceguide input from the original Bose to the aftermarket deck< how do I do that?

3.I want to be able to play MP3's
I've called Crutchfield tech support and they told me they CAN NOT guarantee that I-Simple will adopt since Im equipped with Nav. Has anyone equipped with Factory Nav been able to adopt an IPOD succesfuly with or without steering wheel controls?

Sorry for the winded post, but Im not sure what to do.
What would you do if you were in my position. Any Help, technical advise would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I am your man when it comes to this stuff. Maybe I can help you out now. Haha.

As far as replacing your nav with an aftermarket one... good luck. You would basically have to buy a new dash and climate controls and hope it integrates.

You can defiinitlely replace the speakers. And I suggest you do. Infinity are a decent start.

The iSimple piece does work. And I might be able to hook you up with that if you're interested.

Ohm-wise, your front/rear speakers may be the same, but are your fronts components, or co-ax's? I had BOSE in my 07, and I had components in the front with the tweeters in the sail panel.

You bring out a good point Don.
The front are components with tweeter behind the mirror. I'm almost certain the rear door has no tweeters. So I guess I shouldn't swap the spare rear speaker in the front door....

My opinion is always the same and not the cheap route...dump it all and go aftermarket. You start adding all the adaptors trying to make things work and they turn out to be a headache. I'm glad I did it right the first time...

Can you tell me lets say 3-5 type of speakers that offer great performance at a very reasonable price. I'm looking at speaker part names and not brand names. Thanks David.

I actually have a set of speakers for sale right now. They are Image Dynamics XS65's. Do some research they are awesome. I'm just doing some thing different, they work perfectly. 175.00

Other than that JL Audio C5 or C3, Alpine Type R, CDT makes some nice stuff. There are tons of great speakers for 250.00 - 300.00 range, just make sure to get a nice amp. Most higher end speakers don't sou d good off of HU power. The one area you don't want to skimp on are the speakers.

Edit: everyone calm down I'll do a for sale thread with pics tonight when I get home.

hey man i have an after market deck with my factory nav and bose still working. I needed the Metra 70-7551 wiring kit and metra steering wheel kit. And had to wire the power for the nav screen so it could come on, just spliced into an accesory fuse for my cig lighters so it come on when key is at acc or on.

First to pics are after the deck install. Second two are with car on and after i paint dash pieces red.

So let me get this straight. You hooked up an aftermarket deck and you are powering your OEM Bose speakers with it? How oes this sound considering you are pushing 2ohm speakers with 4ohm outputs. You have to have you volume up quite high then....how is the clarity?
If that's the case, I assume your OEM Nav voice guide does not work through the speakers?

That makes raise an eyebrow....in theory it should change because of the speaker impedance.
What made you change this setup then?

If that's the case, I assume your OEM Nav voice guide does not work through the speakers?
The clarity does not really change much honestly, but i do have a dying front passenger speaker. Working on getting a new setup in. And correct my OEM Nav voice does not play. I kinda like it that way tho. Shit got annoying quick lol and its also kinda hard not to notice when the navi screen flashes when directing the next step anyway lol. but i guess its a matter of preference. I dont think there is a setup where the OEM nav will still play voice if you have an aftermarket installed.

Currently have a Pionner AVH-P3400BH deck. nothing too fancy. Bypass switch installed. Stock Nav operational (no voice tho). And stock Bose amp amp and speakers (one failing on me). Ime working on getting:

Front Doors: Kicker Component DS652,
Rear Doors: Kicker Coax DS65,
Subs: 2- 12in Kicker CompVT,
Amp: Boss PH2.1000 (2000watt max/ 320rms/2000 bridgable).~ Ordered my amp before buying my subs lol. and hadnt researched the ones i wanted well enough. from 10 to 12 in subs it goes from 320 to 400 rms. So got to get a stronger amp. small set back. Prolly gonna go with the Boss PH4000D (Total Power: 4000 Watts, Max Power @ 1 Ohm: 4000 Watts x 1, Max Power @ 2 Ohms: 3000 Watts x 1, •RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 1600 Watts x 1).

Over all my system is gonna be a lower cost system to improve MY listening experience. I aint tyrna have the whole block hear me before i even get there. Again all a matter of preference.

Thank you for the informative and honest info since you are the only one with OEM Nav. Looks like I'm ripping out my system this winter and starting new.

I do want to have the voice guide working so I think I will leave the OEM tweeters hooked up for just that. If that doesn't work I might place 2 or 1 speaker below the dash hooked to OEM deck. I will use the Metra steering controls also.
Thanks again.

What made you change this setup then?
He more than likely has a harness integration unit that uses the RCA outputs of the aftermarket unit and sends it to the Bose amps. The aftermaket headunits amplifier is not being used. This should help

I have my OEM BOSE tweeters and door speakers, if you want me to send you any of them, let me know. I'll never use them again, they are just sitting in a box.

Splurge on a good set of components for the front doors, and amp to push them and perhaps a small sub-woofer down the road. 80-90% of the sound you'll hear comes from these speakers. I'd be less concerned with the rear doors and pull the back deck speakers out entirely. You can stay stock with your deck and use a line out converter.
I went with Focal 165v30 ($499) and have been very happy. I know those aren't cheap, but again go biggest on your front components, there is less of a return on investment on the rears doors.
If I was trying to keep it on the cheap, I'd get one 3 channel amp like this.
XD500/3 - Car Audio - Amplifiers - XD - JL Audio

for the front's an a small sub.
