![]() short of some serious grinding noise(s), (or wheel hops), how would one know if any of the wheel bearings on 6th Gens are shot? Other than road (or I should say tire) noises, I really can't tell-but I'd like to know just in case.... |

Raise the car up. Grab the tire at the 12 o'clock n 6 o'clock then wiggle to see if your getting any play. Then grab the tire at the 3 o'clock n 9 o'clock then wiggle it. If your getting play in both of these positions then you need a wheel bearing. In really bad cases you are gonna get play in every position of where you grab the tire.

I just had this problem recently and told care of it.. the way yu can find out if your wheel bearings are bad is to put your car on the lift or jack stands and grab wheel at the top and pull it towards you and if its loose you will notice and that means your wheel bearing is shot.. check all 4 to make sure.. you might wanna find a local mechanic that has good experience with replacing them cause there are pressed in bearings.. Autozone sells them for $39.99 plus tax... hopefully this was some useful info for you..

Thanks Fellas,
but if one doesn't lift the car and do the 'wheel wiggle testing', there's no other way to know? Will try tho' asap. Thanx again. |

Briing the car to me and we'll test drive it. Sounds like sway links but I want to double check it.

wiggle test has always worked for me to figure such problems out. Man, now I want to get underneath to find out if anything needs changing.

You think the axle would make that kind of noise?

When my wheel bearings went on my Taurus, I would get a loud humming coming from the front end...when you slowed the car down, it would sound like a jet enging spooling down.

If had that happen to the passenger side axle on my5th gen,
only when I make a turn I get that pop pop (or clunk clunk ) axle bearings were shot, I know the swaybar could also cause this. just posting up few things that also could be |

I changed MaxPrimes passenger axle. I only heard sqeaking like when rubber seizes to metal and you try turning it and a slight clunk. I'm thinking sway bar bushings and links.

No i just recently had my wheel bearing replaced.. and i have another question idk what this could be i hear a clacking noise only when im slowin down like something is loose.. if im moving slow it the clack is slow.. but if im moving fast its a faster clackin noise as if a brake pad is bad or something but my brakes are fine it almost time to replace them.. or maybe its a warp rotor.. idk

I figure why start a new thread, plus this one has some good info.
It's wheel bearing time for me too. Actually the wheel hub on the drivers side is bad. I started to notice some slight vibration at 40-50mph, I thought my tires might be out of balance so I waited to put on my winter set up. It's on the car now, same vibration and then a reoccurring sound from the front end as the car rolled. Kind of hard to describe but you could tell it was synced up with the speed of the wheel rolling. Took it to shop, Hub/Bearing combo was bad. $240 later I be picking it up tonight. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

yes thats the front,
I think you were searching for the rears, Ive done mines awhile ago , never thought of taken pics or write up I remember there are (4) bolts that holds the rear bearings in, you have to take them off from the rear, not sure if you already have done this already Don, |

It seems to have...after drilling out the broken ABS sensor bolt AND the broken drill bit...then replacing the wheel bearing...as I said, it was a weekend nightmare. That's the closest I've ever come to throwing tools...
