Default What Shocks Are The Best?

So every now and then we get a noob who asks what shocks are the best? Or what shocks would you recommend?
Instead of having to answer this question a million times more in the future… we can just post them to this thread.

Please vote for the shocks you feel in your opinion is the best with a quick line or two in the thread of why you selected those.

I personally voted for the KYB GR2's. Yes the ride is a bit stiffer than stock and takes some getting use to but eventually it will feel just as normal. If someone was looking to replace their current shocks... I would def. recommend KYB GR2's. Plus you can always find them at a great price.

Completely disappointed with GR-2 on my 2005 SE. KYB are so-so with OEM springs, but this is absolutely unacceptable combination together with Eibach.
I suspect that 2 inches of drop is too big for GR-2 and they just can't handle it. Handling became insecure and ride is jigly, so I had to roll back to OEM springs.
I would like to pay attention that I am not talking about stiff ride. I had GR-2 + Eibach on my previous car and loved them, it was firm, but car was literally speaking glued to a road. Here I need something more sporty, for example, Koni inserts from 4th or 5th generation.

Im a little effy and agree with you on this ,

From my experenice , my old ride was 1994 U13 Altima KA-T.
I had arospeed 2.5 drop in the front and switch to GR-2s,
I was told at the time GR-2s are basically replacement for OEM stuff,

I installed these struts and didnt even last me 6 months and I do not live in NY, Florida roads are pretty decent but it couldnt handle the drop , I guess spring rates come into effect at this time.

Because Arospeed was a company base out of FL and I had ties with them, they made a set of springs , how good where they ? Well I was the lowest on springs with what was out at the time.

I order ANOTHER set of GR-2s and change them up with Eibach and yet again 3 months this time and they were blown.

Another friend of mine with a b13 sentra went over a rail road track and the strut insert blew and dent his hood.

Since then Ive been much Anti-GR-2s ( and iApple products )

I havent use them since so I really cant comment on how they ride on a Maxima.

I wouldnt mind riding in Monroes just to see how they feel.

Right now I would have to Vote other

I need to change mine also and will go with the kybs. Question did any one experience the tires getting cupped on the inside when the strut or mount went bad.

Hey I'm looking into lowering my 06 Maxima.

I think I've decided between either the Tein S-Tech, or Eibach PROkit, because I want to keep a comfortable ride. May be leaning toward Tein because of drop.. but is it TOO low?

From the looks of things the KYB GR-2s are a lot stiffer, and I've heard of them blowing early on a lot of lowered cars.

Do the Monroe Sensa-Track keep a "like OEM" ride? I have an SL and want to keep it as comfortable as possible with a drop.

Eibach, or Tein w/ Monroe?

Or do shocks even need replacing?? I have ~49k miles

My rear shocks were blown at almost the exact same mileage. But I didn't realize it until I lowered on Progress. Put on the SensaTracs and it ran smooth.

Mine is an 06 SL too, and it rides just as comfortable (if not more).

I do not want progress. I want to keep the best ride I can, which leaves me with Tein or Eibachs..

I might go eibach/monroe.. i like the drop the teins give but I'm afraid it might be TOO low.

Sounds like monroes are the struts I need

Default Re: What Shocks Are The Best?

I had the Eibach PROkit/Monroe Sensa-Trac combo installed a few weeks back. I couldn't be happier. Handling is so much more exact. You turn, you go. Ride is of course a bit bumpier on bad roads, but on the highway... WOW I think it rides even better than OE struts with +50k miles.

I originally had only a front end camber kit, but after my tech installed and aligned my car, he said the rear tires are a BIT out of spec, and he'd prefer me to look into a rear camber kit as well. Got the rear kit installed about two weeks later. Don't want to risk burning through my +$800 Michelins :D hahaha

Honestly, none out of three are the best.

But then again we don't have more choices than three so....
(Unless you want coil overs to find more choices)

KYB = stiffer and ride handles great - Best if you prefer this way
Monroe = Comfort ride with little degraded handling - Best if you prefer this way
OEM = Changes not much - Best if you prefer this way

I picked KYBs when I replaced mine.
