The SE has a sportier suspension, where the SL has the more luxury type. Either way it wont matter if you're planning on changing springs/shocks/struts.

If I remember correctly, the setup is the same just softer springs in the SL. Mine were barely in there for a month so my "luxury ride" didn't last long!!!

In addition to what Deadbolt and Jsmithsole said, I believe the SE has 18" wheels and the SL has 17" wheels.

The SL also came standard with leather and a couple other amenities that were options on the SE. Hence the SE's lower starting price of 27ish to the SL's 30ish, and in pre 6.5 models I BELIVE the SE has a small trunk spoiler while the SL dosent. But I could be way off on that one.

I have an 04 SE with heated seats and heated steering wheel. Also the leather seats in the SE are perforated or breathable leather. The SL has smooth leather seats.

My SL's are perfed!

There is a thread somewhere that states all the packages etc clearly. It's been so long now even I forget. The only remaining indication that I even have an SL is the little numbers below my shifter (4sp) which I guess is a small blessing in disguise!!!

And I will say the heated steering wheel is great even here in So Cal when it gets all the way down in the 50's brrrrrrr! Lol

BTW the main question was on the suspension not which options came with which. Back on topic guys...

Do you have part numbers to back up this claim?

I remember on the big board that two separate people posted their part numbers, one an SL and the other an SE. They were the same. Been a few years though.

Aftermarket parts will have the same part # because they fit SE and SL models the same. I'll double check with local dealers tomorrow and update my results. If I made the wrong statement, then i'll stand corrected.

I believe I remember this discussion. They were stock shocks from an SE and an SL, but the part numbers were the same. I think that was the deal...

That's what I'm getting at. Since the beginning we've always been TOLD there was a difference between the SL and SE stock suspension. When it was actually looked at, all the part numbers were 100% the same. IMO, the sportier vs luxury was more of a we'll give you bigger rims or optional features.

Regardless of what was chosen, they sold a lot of cars.

Calm down, I'm not trying to correct you. I'm simply asking if YOU had any other data. Like I said in my reply to Mando, I remember this convo on the other board for the OEM parts not aftermarket. Hell I could be wrong, I drink a lot.

lol i'm very calm bro... sorry if i came off a bit wrong, but i was very calm. It doesn't hurt to double check, right? I have a dealership near by that I take my car too.. I'll call and inquire about this and see what they see what they tell me. I checked those online review boards for maximas, etc.. and they all said :

SE ($27,200) comes with a choice of six-speed manual transmission or five-speed automatic (for the same price). SE comes with a sports suspension and 18-inch wheels and tires. It comes equipped with all the conveniences you'd expect in a near-luxury sedan, plus the unique Skyview roof, a narrow band of glass that stretches down the roof front to rear. Traction control comes standard.

SL ($29,450) comes standard with the five-speed automatic, a softer suspension and 17-inch wheels and tires. Leather upholstery, heated seats, xenon HID headlamps, a premium eight-speaker Bose stereo, and conveniences that are optional on the SE are all standard on the SL. SL also features the Skyview roof. Woodgrain trim replaces the SE's metallic interior accents.

Options include a DVD navigation system with seven-inch color LCD display ($2,000); XM or Sirius satellite radio ($400); Vehicle Dynamic Control ($600). A power glass sunroof ($900) replaces the Skyview roof with a conventional power-opening glass sunroof.

Source: http://www.automotive.com/2005/43/ni...eup/index.html

Like you said, it could be some technique to get things sold.. simply marketing or it could be fact. I'll ask around to clear it up.
