Default Strut Mount Questions

Hey everybody,

I opened this thread because I read here and there some hints about strut mounts, but nothing concentrated. Big 3 questions are:

1- What symptoms will ppl face when their strut mounts go bad(like noises, steering feel, etc.)?

2- What brand of strut mount is highly recommended?

3- If I change my strut mount should I go for an alignment again?

Default Re: Strut Mount Questions

Bad strut mount will make popping noises or other noises from that area. KYB mounts are cheap and known to go bad. Order oem parts. It only cost me about $40 for both front mounts and lower bearings. Also inspect your boots before installing new struts.

I'm not sure but I think changing the mounts require strut removal. So yes an alignment might be neede.

Thanks Phantom, I personally have a sort of popping noise from my passenger side only over the bumps when the strut is contracted and on the way back to its normal position. It's not that bad, you have to be very cautious to notice it. I bet my father didn't notice it. I was kinda effy to go with KYB mounts and I think you're right Phantom, OEMs are the best bet. where did you get yours? cause for boths sides the oem mounts are over $40+tax and shipping.

Thanks eddy I know you tried to help and it sort of did, apart from poop noise

You should be able to get Duralast mounts from Autozone for about $25/each or less.

If you replace the mount, you will also need to replace the bearing.

So basically it's number 8 and 9(strut bearing and strut mount)right? Is there anything else needed?

Yes. Should be it unless your boots are torn.

I wouldn't/didn't get OEM strut mounts because I figured if they went bad already why would I get them again to wait for them to go bad. Just my theory. I went to Moog, bought from rockauto.com which haven't failed me yet. Have had them for a year and a half with 2 800 mile trips without any issues.

Any other positive feedbacks on Moog strut mounts? I'm lil bit skeptical about moogs. You know my car is 6years old with 48K on the clock. The mount go bad since I put Eibachs on(which doesn't mean it hast sth to do with Ebach) I mean since I changed the springs this happened which could be a result of bad assembly.

I don't think to many people have used moog. Your best. Search for moog on the forum and see what you can find.
