Default SE vs SL Suspension Differences

Is it just springs or struts and sways also? Is there a difference in ride height?

no difference in ride height. its all just about how soft/tight the suspension is. The SL is a little bit of a softer ride and comes with 17" wheels. the SE has 18" wheels and has a slightly stiffer suspension. also, there are a few interior differences also. like brushed aluminum or chrome or wood inserts.

The springs should be identical, just the shocks/struts on the SL will be softer/smoother.

Most people can't tell the difference in size between the 17" & 18", but I'm sure most of us here can notice the more meat on the tire. Can't remember what size tire the 17" has.

Honestly, I liked the look of the SE wheels better.

Maybe im writing my sentences incorrectly. Im curious if u put the 18" rims on a SL will the ride feel like a SE. I am wondering if its the wheels that are actually changing the ride feel. OR is it such a minor difference that u cant notice a softer ride on a SL?

if you put SE wheels on the SL that wont change a thing. it may change how much tire you have but most likely wont change the feel of anything.

Default Re: SE vs SL Suspension Differences

The difference is not in the wheels.

The ultimate ride difference between the SE and SL is in the suspension no matter what wheels you choose 18 or 17. What makes them different is higher-rate damping on the shock absorbers. The SL suspension is tuned for a softer ride while the SE is much stiffer.

Other Helpful Differences/Facts:

The sporty SE model came standard with 18 inch alloy wheels, P245/45R18 V-rated tires, rear spoiler, and an optional 6-speed manual transmission.

The luxurious SL model came standard with 17 inch alloy wheels, P225/55R17 H-rated tires, wood interior trim, 6-disc CD changer, Bose stereo, leather seats, and HID headlights.
Hope this answers your question.

SE FTW..........if your really into driving and like to actually feel the road. Then the SE will do the job BUT if you already have an SL. Why change it? Just put the 18's on there and your good. No need to change the suspension.........I wouldn't.

My SL needs new shocks. I've had a 5th gen SE before, and loved the stock suspension. So I'm assuming the 6th gen SE feels the same way. What kind of shocks would have this "higher rate damping"? The KYB GR2? I want my ride to feel similar to an SE, more tighter than the SL.

I have a 04 SE with KYB GR2 struts all around, and it feels tight to me. I'm on stock springs now and wondering if performance springs will be too rough of a ride. But, I think that's another thread.

Well I own a 100% stock 05 SL and all I can say is that the suspension is good to a point. It's soft but sometimes is a bit too soft on turns and creates a little body roll. Other than that it provides a very luxurious and sporty ride. I've also driven an 05 SE and it's not that bad either. I mean if you really crave the sportiness then go for it. I don't think it provides a harsh ride as some editors and stupid consumers have written on Edmunds.com. Height is basically the same so there's no difference. They both use the same springs, I think, but the main differences are their shocks & struts.
