Default Rubbing Noise When Coming To A Stop

My car was hit on the front driver side recently and after I replaced all the body parts I was left with this sound. The only thing that stood out was that there was play in the wheel when it was jacked up when pulling from left to right. So I replaced the lower control arm due to the ball joint being busted but that did not solve the problem.

It sounds like a "Err err err" sound when I brake hard enough and you don't really hear the noise until 25mph-0. There are other times when I can hear a scraping noise without hitting the brakes at all but there has to be something on the side of me to bounce back that sound.

Tire rods are fine. Sway bar links are fine. I have taken off the brake pads several times after the accident and do not see anything wrong with them.

Would it be possible that my rotor got bent and that is causing this? I know a bent wheel would cause a lumpy ride constantly right? So I don't think its that. Any help and opinions would be highly appreciated because this noise is getting real old.

I will try to take a video as soon as I leave the house and hopefully the camera's mic can pick up the sound.

I was thinking about just buying a $37 rotor and throwing that on there to see if that fixes it but I was wanted to get other peoples ideas of what it might be.

had the same issue and it was the caliper bolt guide pins. It was metal on metal. Its the push pins that has the bolts that you loosen to change the brake pads. Pull them out and i bet they are dry and warped. Drove me nuts. autozone will give you a full set for about $15.00. Keep a notice that the lower and upper bolts pins are different from each other

Yea it sounds just like that. I hope it is those bolts that's less than a new rotor.

I knew it.

Its just one of those parts no one every looks at. I stumbled across it cause it sounded like metal on metal so i brought one of those caliper grease packs and found out what was the cause luckly. Good thing i didnt go changing everything to find it was a $15.00 part after dumping a few hundred. That noise drove me nuts and had me scratching my head for weeks.

Good thing you asked the my6thgen family

Good luck

BTW

buy the little caliper grease pack cause the new bolts and pins will need them. its another $1.00

I replaced the caliper bolts and the front rotor today and I still have the noise. The only other thing I can think about is maybe switch out the brake pads with a spare set that I have. Not sure what else it can be. What other parts might have gotten messed up by getting hit on that side?

I will for sure try to take a video tomorrow though and hopefully that will help.

Changed both. The kit came with the guide pins and new bolts.

Well I'm going to throw that extra pair of pads on that side and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't I will try to record that sound on camera to see if that helps.

Not sure if this is related or not but also when I'm at a complete stop and I shift from Drive to Reverse you can hear a creaking noise. Pretty much when the load changes from one direction to another.

Oh yea I noticed this morning that a lot times this noise is there without hitting the brakes and sometimes when I turn to the right it gets louder. Its just weird because sometimes the noise disapears and then its only there when I come to a complete stop.

Ok so I guess that will be the next thing. I wasnt going to buy pads I just had an extra set in my closet.

For the bearing you have to have it pressed in at a shop right? Or can you do that yourself?

Pressed for sure. Does the wheel still have play?

I actually forgot to check that yesterday but I'll look into that today. Im sure that play is gone though because I had a friend pull on it while I was under the car and the only thing I saw was the ball joint that was busted moving everytime he pulled on the wheel. Of course that part has been replaced and on there tight.

I'll make sure to check that as soon as I get home though.

Ok so I checked for the wheel play today and it is gone. Well there is a slight bit but Im sure thats normal because the other side does the same thing and the service manual says there should be a very small amount. Of course it is nothing compared to how it was before.

I also decided to put the car in neutral and spin that wheel to see if I heard anything and I did. When turning the wheel I can hear something that sounds like a ball rolling around. I'm pretty sure thats the wheel bearing right? I can't think of anything else that would have a marble or BB type sound rolling around.

So I should have time to replace that bearing next weekend. I know the bearing is $50 and it costs $39.50 to have it pressed in at the machine shop. I just hope the hub asssembly isnt messed up also and this thing just presses in the way it should.

Do yourself a big favor and change them both. I made the mistake of just changing out a bearing only to have to go right back in there for the hub.
