Default Car Shakes At Highway Speeds

Hey fellas...I need some input on this issue I experienced today. The car was fine yesterday. I posted this on the big org, but I figured I would get more replies from my 6th gen brothers on here. Anyhow...

The car feels like it's bouncing/shaking up and down very fast whenever I'm cruising 50mph+ like I'm driving over uneven pavement. The shaking stops when I let off the gas, and will resume within a few minutes after I step on the gas again (to maintain speed, go up inclines, etc). It shakes harder the faster I go, but will stop instantly when I let off.

I have new tires with less than 5k on them, and they're balanced. All the lug nuts are tightened to spec.

Anyone got any ideas what's causing the shake? Thanks in advance!

To me that really sounds like a balancing/lug issue. I'm sure you wouldn't overlook, but double check just in case. I had my rotations done recently and I heard a weight come off. It got fixed, but it turns out the balancing was still slightly off afterward. I found out I was right when I took it back the next day.

Just to think of tranny issues, does it happen when you hit that cruising speed and put it in neutral?

same thing happens to me. it goes away like around 65. either an alignment issue or a maybe a bent rim. idk.

I had the alignment done about a month ago, the steering is still very straight. I haven't tried putting it in neutral while in cruising speed, I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

But if it was a wheel balance issue, wouldn't the problem persist regardless if I have my gas depressed?

Thanks for the fast replies fellas.

how new are the tires ? are they worn ? same brand ?

we had a customer with a brand new set of tires, one bad wheel bearing make the car shake and the tires got chopping on the inside which made the shimmy even worse.

check your wheel bearings if your postive the tires, wheel balance and alignment is on point.

jack the car up and shake the wheels 12 o clock and 6 o clock ( up and down ) if theres any play than its a bad wheel bearing which is common.

if your shake the tires 3 o clock and 9 o clock , it could be bad tie rod ends which you should exam yearly for bad bushings or ripped bushings.

Tires are new (Goodyear Eagle GT's), got them about 4k miles ago. I had them mounted and balanced at Discount Tire. I don't have any issues with them, but will let them check the tires later today when I get off. But the damn car was shaking again this morning during rush hour. I'll see if there's any lateral play to the tires as well.

Maybe it's the axles? That was one of my problems on my old car that got me into some interesting situations on the freeway. Glad luck was on my side though........

Here are the possible:
bad front sway bar links
warped rotors
bad bushings
alignment, a bad alignment can cause vibration if not properly set to specs
Same with wheel balancing..They could of put the wrong weights on it and at a certain speed it could cause a lot of vibration.
worn out struts can also be a cause
bad inner and outer tie rods
lower control arm bushing
bad CV joints

Well the 1st pic is the passenger side which looks really fucked up, which very common on the 6th,

The drive side looks just worn , how many miles and what are you lowered on ?

this def will make the car viberate because the shaft is unbalance now because the grease is leaking out, could be worse and the bearings all fall out because they are dry.

I'm lowered on Progress with GR2 struts...about 114k miles on her so far.

why is it so common for the passenger side to get that messed up? is it partially due to the fact that i'm lowered?

Hopefully they didn't look like this when your mechanic checked them and didn't find anything wrong. If they did...time to find a new mechanic.

Well I can only guessitmate that the passenger side takes more of a beating due to the fact its a longer travel.

again this is only my opinion as my passenger side has gone out a few times with I was a 5AT and few others that ive done was only the passenger.

Also passenger wheel bearings are also known to go bad on the 5TH gen and 6TH Gen.

Why ? excatly? well I cant answer that one, just from my experenice that ive done repairs , its always the passenger.

and recently i did a 2010 Maxima and customer feels the car pulls to the right / passenger...

Nissan has NO TSB on this , and here is the thread I made which also is a common issue
http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...lls-right.html

Hopefully it won't go out again anytime soon! Looks like the passenger side boot had been damaged for awhile. Come to think of it, it made a noise whenever I turn right into my driveway, but no noise when turning left. I just associated the noise wth my suspension being squeaky.
