Default Car Pulls During Acceleration

Got my new tire put on yesterday, after hitting the large rock and busting the tire Monday night. While driving to work this morning, I noticed that the car pulls to the left upon acceleration. I have a 6 speed so I notice it every time I have to stop and take off again. I take off, it pulls left, I have to steer right to compensate, I put the clutch in to switch gears, it goes to the right, I steer left to compensate, hit the next gear and it pulls left again. This happens with every gear.

I had noticed this to a very small degree even before I hit the rock, so small that it didn't bother me and I never had it checked out. After hitting the rock, it's now much more noticeable and very annoying. Is this just an alignment issue or is it something more serious?

Have it looked at. The way it punctured that tire, it was pretty drastic under there. I wouldn' be surprised if something is bent. Maybe you got lucky and just need an allignment. Maybe the wheel got bent. Definatelly have it looked at.

if it was hard enough to punch the tire, I would check the wheel if its bent or not,

then I would check control arms /tie rods ,inspect them visual or the alignment place will check for you.

I would say an alignment to James,but....

I did the same thing last year. It rain here for like 2 weeks straight and when I was driving home I hit a huge pot hole. Bent my wheel and blew out my tire. I got the wheel fixed and a new tire, but I still have a shimmy I cant get rid of. Like the mechanic said, even a slight bend in some thing will cause problems. You may not be able to see it but its there.

At highway speed (80 mph) there is no shimmy, no shake, no pull - nothing. I realize I could have jacked up something, but like I said, it was there (only slightly) before I hit this rock. It's just worse now.

I dont have the shimmy all the time. I really notice it when Im braking. Its there and I cant get rid of it. Since I damaged my tire and wheel Ive replaced the tires, wheels, rotors and pads, still have the shimmy.

AGREED!!! I'd have it looked at... a rock can f*&k your ride up.

Def +1 for an alignment... but you never know what other damage is caused.

No harm in having it checked, better to be safe than sorry.

Just got my car aligned. The front left was WAY out! That's the side I hit the giant rock with. They had to use a "cam bolt" for the top strut bolt to get it aligned properly. I didn't notice the pulling during acceleration on the short drive home, but I'm going to keep an eye on it. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

I sure am glad I bought that alignment package earlier this year! Free, unlimited alignments for 1 year for $100.00. I've been there 4 times since March!

The alignment does appear to have fixed the pull. Now I think I need all my other tires balanced because I have a pretty good shake/vibration in the steering wheel.

worst case is the wheel could be bent a little, you know not perfectly round. That causes vibration most of the time. What you could try is swap the back wheels to the front and see if you have a vibration

Torque steer is when a transversely mounted engine *side ways* particularly front wheel drive vehicles steer to a certain direction. It's caused by the engine making too much power. Since one side will always be more efficient at putting power from the engine down to the ground, that side will accelerate faster than the other side, leading to torque steer.
In general, the only way you could fix it would be to be less aggressive with the throttle. You can help alleviate some of the symptoms with aftermarket suspension pieces, better tires, and probably performance drive shafts. But that's expensive so for the Average driver: just dont be so aggressive, or get ready and fight the wheel when you stomp on the gas.

Did you replace only one tire? Depending on how worn your existing tires are, the difference in circumference, rolling resistance, etc. could definitely cause the symptoms you mentioned. More so the one directly across from the new tire... Im assuming this was the front tire right?
