Default Can You Look At My Strut Mounts?

I noticed the top of the strut mounts were uneven. Kinda like the nut isn't centered. Is this normal? These are Moog brand mounts that I replaced last summer. I tried to tighten them but the whole shaft just spins along with the rubber bushing inside.

If you're going to need to replace them, let me know. I have a brand new set that I bought, and didn't use. Also, I'll try to snap some pics of mine when I get home from work, so you can compare.

Looks like the rubber inside the mount might have failed. The strut should not spin if mounted correctly.

Ray, I think he's talking about the piston shaft with the nut on it. Mine will spin, but there is resistance...it doesn't spin freely.

Cheeto,

I just checked mine, and the strut shaft is centered on both of them. Since yours are off, I'm thinking that the rubber bushings must have failed on yours, unless the mount itself has issues. As I said, I've got 2 mounts, brand new in the box if you need them.

Ya when I turn the wheel the shaft kinda squishes around. It doesn't stay centered. I was wondering why when I drive over uneven pavement the steering kinda wandered. I'd definitely be interested in those mounts. But I have to wait until this friday.

Default Re: Can You Look At My Strut Mounts?

Thanks guys!

Cheeto, I bought these mounts to use when I did my suspension last week, but they didn't come in in time. I didn't want to wait and pressed on with the suspension swap. My stock units only had 30K on them, and the mounts looked fine. I got all new rubber pieces with my new suspension parts, so I re-used my stock plates. I picked up the new mounts 2 days after I finished my swap, and figured I'd just keep them in case I need them later. I can get new ones for myself later if I need them. Just let me know.

PM sent.

I don't believe it will mess with the alignment, but you may wanna check with MrDolla. The strut only fits into the mount one way, I don't see that's it's adjustable where it would mess with the alignment
