Default Which Brakes To Get?

So today I was on the freeway driving 65mph (speed limit) and a dumbass in front of me decided to cut traffic and try to enter another freeway right where it was ending so he decided it was okay to stop hard as hell in front of me and I smashed on the brakes and I realized my brakes aren't that good, it took a while to come to a complete stop, I know they're bad because when I drive my parents or brothers car the brakes are awesome, so my question is what brakes do I get ? I want something good but that doesn't cost an arm and leg, thanks in advance for ideas

Alien Brakes Performance Rotors

I got the alien brake pads and rotors. The look awesome and work great. I painted my stock calipers and I think the whole setup just looks awesome if I may say so myself lol

There are several places here in Socal to buy rotors. I bought mine from some place in the OC... I cant remember where,Santa Ana I think. As far as pads get the AutoZone Duralast Gold. They are around 50.00 a set,but have a lifetime warranty. Try to leave at least a 1/4 pad, take them back and get new ones!!

If you want better stopping power, start with a good set of pads. Your next step would be upgraded lines, then upgraded calipers, lastly rotors to round everything out. Putting drilled/slotted rotors on OEM pads/calipers will do NOTHING to improve your braking.

If you are sticking with stock calipers, I've always had good luck with the AutoZone DuraLast Gold pads. They have good bite, the dust isn't bad, and they have a lifetime warranty against wear...you wear them out, they replace them for free. I use these on every brake job that I do...a very good value for the money.

If you want something more aggressive, you'd maybe want to see what EBC offers for our cars, or HAWK. Just make sure that you stick with a street compound, and NOT a race compound. Race compounds will not bite until they reach temperature, which is all fine and well after the brakes are hot, but when they are cold you'll have trouble stopping.

Default Re: Which Brakes To Get?

Cross and drilled rotors are mostly for looks. Its just an alternative to your stock brake system. It's not to say that you will automatically have IMPROVED BRAKING like Don mentioned.

I personally like the way they look.... so I went with drilled/slotted. Just my personal preference. I don't like the blank rotors. lol
