I'm in the minority in saying i prefer OEM brakes. I did hawk pads once and the noise was horrible and they werent all that great. OEM hasnt failed me yet.

Duralast Cmax Gold's are pretty good. Strong, smooth, and quiet. I have OEM on my Max right now but I have to change my rear brakes. The Cmax are on my dads truck and they're pretty good.

I would get the rotors turned. If you take them off your self its around 30.00 to have them done. Might as well try that first.

And then buy ceramic pads. I use wagners.

But like the first responder in this thread said, OEM are truly good overall.

dude , whoever put the pads in prob didn't have the shims in there.

there is some ref stuff called brake quiet that you can cover the pad area and reduce the noise.

if these pads are still fairly new , I would go this route until the next pad change to go with cermanics.

or you can say F it and purchase new cermanic pads and call it a day.

Personally, I don't care for the initial bite on ceramic pads...in my experience they perform GREAT when warmed up. That being said, I use AutoZone DuraLast GOLD pads on every brake job that I do. They come with shims installed, have a lifetime warranty against wear, and I've never had one compaint about noise. I think the regular Duralast don't have the shims...make sure you get the GOLD!

I have had my Hawk HP Streets on my car for 3 years now. I got them with new Rotora slotted rotors and SS lines and they have proven to be a significant improvement over OEM, for me anyway. I don't track/autoX, so I opted for the less-noisy Street pads; they heat-up quickly, bite well and fade less than my OE setup did. They only cost about $60 front or rear, IIRC (may be a little bit more now, though). There are plenty of good options out there. I've read good things about both ceramic and metallic and, even though I'm pretty happy with the HPS, may try either one of those when it's time to change them again. Good luck with your decision and let us know which ones you choose.
