Default Anyone Know About Air Suspension?

I've only ever seen air on 1 car band that was Unfadeables. Does anyone know about adding air to a max? I don't even know where to begin looking.

I've poked around google for some kiits, and I notice that they have the slow kit, and then the BAM! UP/DOWN! kit. I would be looking for the BAM kit. (Unfade has the BAM kit).

I also wonder what the ride difference is on these, if they are really bouncy then it would be pretty dumb of me to put air on my max since I have a bunch of horepower mods. No need to be bouncing around over 100.

Also, what else would I need to replace to put these in my car, besides what comes in a kit? I notice tht when a car is slammed on bags, the rear and sometimes front wheels suck right up into the wheel wells. Is this something that needs to be altered, or will they just camber out when dropped?

This is what I have found (anyone heard of these guys?).

http://www.thehoffmangroup.com/autol...?step=bagsdual

I think this will be my little project for next year, or maybe over the winter.

air bags aren't really a good sport suspension, its going to be a little bouncy, but more importantly the handling will suffer. Which there is nothing wrong with, as long as your ok with that. I would do the Ksport AirTech suspension...search ebay. Made for our cars, and fast moving. If your into the performance, do coilovers.

Default Re: Anyone Know About Air Suspension?

air will definately give you a stiffer ride so in turn you will get that bouncy feeling. There are alot of kits out there and you get what you pay for. how fast the car drops depends on what size tubing(wires, line, what ever you call it) you use. the bigger it is the faster the car will drop. the smaller it is the slower it will drop. most kits come with 1/2" lines. THe one you are looking at is universal kit. which is fine but thats alot of work and customizing. there are kits out there that bolt right up. your wheel naturally will go in when the car drops. you might need to do fender work if dropping the car rubs against the wheel. i think i answered most of your questions but if you have anymore just give me a shout.
some cons to consider:
Valves will freeze in the winter (no air can travel through lines) which means car stays dropped until valves are unfrozen. not sure where you are located but thats a big hassel.
alot of things can go wrong. bags pooping, lines being run cuts open from being pinched or rubbing up against something
there are alot more just to lazy to post. good luck man

hmm, I wonder how often these actually break. This is my DD right now, but I plan to buy a truck for the winter sometime soon.

I really don't want to waste the money on coilovers if I plan to eventually add bags anyway. Bleh.

I wanna get bags later on as well.. unfadeable also had 2 or 4 compressors so it went up & down quickly! He was runnin the universal air kit and ju st bought all the top end parts from them to put the kit together. There was nothing at all wrong with his. I was quoted 2800$ for the kit & install on my car.

i just got off the phone with my guy
and your looking at 2800.00 for kit and installed...

you drop off the car monday and you pick it up frida...

no major issues except that when your talking about air suspension,
air finds a way to escape so example is: if you park the car over night raised,
in the morning you MIGHT see the front end sitting a little lower due to more
weight from the engine in the front.

i asked about the winter thing, if it freezes, he said no. none that he has done
and hes in my area (nj) and this guy does suspensions for a living.

hope that works out for ya.

p.s. my shop can install air rides as well

just like any shop they wont work on your car for 40 hours straight. u drop it off and when its time to work on it off the list, they hop on it... one person does this, another one does that, then it gets back into line, then someone grabs it and finishes off the job. they are pretty busy so they arent working on 1 car at a time.

True but then the actual work when its time...only ends up being a few hours.

Tang lately have a conversation with my Boss, My boss use to do air rides all day long for the Donks and what not, (im not so into it so never really got into it and educated myself since its not my thing to do )

but what I can say is make sure you have good lines , i think that is very important as some unverisal kits come with cheaper lines.

and I belive also the bags themself are very import to look for , so do you homework before you invest your pockets into a system.

Default Re: Anyone Know About Air Suspension?

Im only going to give you some points since air suspension is my thing. If air is what you want, make sure and ride with some people that have air on their trucks or whatever. If done right, it can ride better then stock. Main thing though, you must learn the system you have on your car because it requires constant maintenance. Bags pop, lines kink and crack, compressors take a crap, valves get plugged. Many things can go wrong and can be very expensive to fix. So make sure you learn how to do all of that. It' like a muscle car, you always have to tinker with it.

the best kit is going to be a custom kit but you can always buy a kit and just put bigger line on there, better compressors and bigger air tank and your ride will move fast no matter what. The line is the main thing, bigger hole= more air travel, more air travel=faster movement. The kits usually come with 1/4" line, just upgrade to 1/2 line and you'll be good. You can get about 50' of line for about 50 bucks and that's more then plenty.

I have to agree with all of this. i had a custom air setup on my 94 altima a few years back. At first I had cylinders and the car dropped damn near on the ground. After a cylinder blew and found out that I could no longer get them, I went with the bags. HUGE difference in ride. Did it bounce? Yea but nothing I couldn't handle. The car wasn't originally built for bags so the setup just wasn't right. I had a huge problem with my bags because the lines kept popping etc. Ended up getting replacement parts and i still started to hate it slowly. As a DD, DON'T DO IT! Like Raz said, it's constant maintenance and can be a pain. For the weekend warrior or a few days a week, roll with it. Like Raz said, do your homework, find some people with air and take some rides etc. I had a second battery in my trunk for my setup and the last straw was hitting switches at a redlight and having the battery and compressor die...with the car on the ground. When the flatbed showed up he asked "what do you want me to do with this?". I was having so many issues with the car/air I told him to drag it lol. I damn near ripped the rear molded bumper off the car along with destroying the exhaust. I just didn't care anymore.

Long story short, do your homework! If done right, and maintained right, you won't have problems
