Default Re: y-pipe

if the only thing you just did recently was change up the Y pipe, I would start looking for an exhuast leak.

from your info , I assume that you just recently added just the Y pipe correct ? or did you installed the intake y pipe and exhuast all toghter ?

ya i just added the y-pipe.already had cai and cat-back exhaust i emailed racingline about it and they said to check for plugged precats but i had them tested today at nissan dealership and they are fine but nissan really didn't seem to want to look into it because not nissan exhaust all old timers at the only nissan dealership in town. im goin to put stock y-pipe back on saturday to see if it free's up right now i can only hear my intake over 5.000 rpms where as with stock y-pipe you could hear from 2,500 rpms.

Default Re: Y-Pipe Question

if its a vaccum leak , go get a can off CRC (Green can ) brake cleaner,

start up the car and let it idle,

spray around the Upper intake manifold / Intake system and vaccum lines.

when you spray it , you may here the leak the engine will change notes and idle up , thats where your leak should be.

if its an exhuast leak , get yourself like a 3 feet heater hose , and one end run it down near the flanges of the headers/ypipe and listen to the other end for pufffing loud sound.

so the only thing you did was added the y-pipe , I would also suggest that you reset the ECU or pull the battery to reset the ECU.

then let the car idle for 20 mins for the ECU to compenste the new mods and let it re-learn

its very important after re-setting the ECU , you need to let it idle,

we CAN-BUS Data link ECUs,

basically smart ECU, when you let it idle, it basically going thru the whole system of sesnors , making sure you have right fuel pressure, adjusting and reading the MAF.

anytime you add a mod to a car, you change the parameters of the ECU , which requires a reset in the ECU for it to calculate all the info.

then you go for a spirit drive and as you drive the ECU learns on the fly of your habits of driving her.

I found ended up being intake took if off looked it over and found a couple of problems with where it meets throttle body was crushed alittle can't fix its already molded to that shape now and where MAF is bolted in with 2 screws cross pattern leaving others corners with some space, so I had some high temp wrap I use at work and then taped around tube near throttle body all edge's where MAF is bolted to, and reset ecu let idle for 20mins, and just went and got back and wow the max is back. All I need to do now is contact k&n and use my warrenty, but I'm switching to something else not having this happen again, any suggestion? And thank you to all that has helped me with this very helpful everyone.

wow , you mean those allen (hex) screws for the MAF was cross thread ? or do you mean the hole was too big ?

also when you say its molded ? you mean the rubber couplings or the acutal intake alum pipe ? that for sure would cause your car to fall flat on its face.

good luck , glad you found out the issues !!

Ya there's only 2 screws that hold the MAF inplace top right and bottom left with a foam kinda of gasket inbetween so when you tighten them down leaving other corners with a gap. The intake tube itself is because its made with like a high-temp plastic and got hot and molded itself into its new shape. So I goin to looking for new intake now. Thanks again.
