Default Throttle Body Trouble

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I'm pretty new. I have an 04 maxima And after much research of how to clean a maxima throttle body I discovered that it is very dangerous.

So what I did was I disconnected the air cleaner from the throttle body. I turned the ignition to on but didn't start the car. I used something to depress the gas pedal and sprayed carb cleaner all up in it. I DID NOT touch the butterfly valve as I knew it was dangerous. I started the car and the service engine light came on. I disconnected the battery for a while and reconnected it and it was still on. My idle isn't high I'm pretty sure it's about the same as it was.

I drove the car around a little and noticed significantly better throttle response. I tried the idle relearn method but I couldn't get it to work even after spending at least a half hour attempting it.

I don't know what to do. My service engine light won't turn off. I have researched this thoroughly and I just can't figure it out.

Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, sorry about that...just saw that...oops.

Well, until we know why that light is on, it is hard to suggest a course of action. You'll have to get your engine fault codes read. It could have nothing to do with what you did, or it could have everything to do with it.

That said, I would check everything you took apart to make sure that it is (1) seated properly (this can be an issue with the throttle body connecting properly to the tubing), and (2) also make sure everything is tightened down. You could have a vacuum leak and thus a lean fault code.

So, check your work.

With regard to (1), what I am referring to is the little ridge that is on the throttle body itself. It is located on the bottom (at the 6 o'clock mark) and, as a result, not generally seen. The tubing also has an adaptation to accommodate this ridge. If you did not line them up accordingly, then you may have a vacuum leak.

Should the light turn off if I do everything right? Or will I have to do the idle relearn?

If you look in the DYI section there is a place to clear the code and find out what it is.
