Default SES Light P1402 and P0402 codes.

05 Maxima 95k miles. My SES light is on, the codes are P1402 P0402.

My mechanic thought it was clogged cats, once I got on here and started researching I see that the P1402 code has to do with the EGR.

The cars idle has been a little rough and it has taken a couple extra cranks to start recently. When ever I accelerate and I'm near something that will cause the sound to bounce back toward me I can hear a metal vibrating sound coming from underneath the car. I attributed it to a loose heat shield.

Could an exhaust leak cause any of my problems?

What should I start looking at first? I was hoping someone could run down through a checklist of things for me to look at.

I appreciate everyones time and input!

post # 5 illustrates what happens when the EGR gets clogged, the EGR location is right near the throttle body , you will need to remove the OEM intake pipe to get to it.

Thanks for the info. Any idea what gaskets I need? I called Advance and they can get the EGR mounting gasket and that he wasn't seeing any other gaskets that have to do with the EGR. I saw that I need gaskets for the EGR tube, are they called something else?

Thanks.
