What exactly is wrong with the car? Is it the catalytic converters? Your third cat (under the car) is unmetered so you can't get a CEL from that one going bad. which means deleting the third cat by getting a y-pipe or exhaust will not fix your CEL.

Yes 2 pre-cats and one on the y-pipe, you should just jump on the racingline GD and get the HFPC solve that problem I punched my cats out cause i was having the same problem and when I took them off they were clogged like a muthafuka

Default Re: Servie Engine Light / Cat System

If you have a CEL related to a cat, then it is one of the pre-cats. The cat on the Y-pipe is NOT metered by the engine, so if that one was clogged, you would not get a code. If your pre-cats are bad, then you are going to need 2 new pre-cats. Only options are OEM (don't even want to know how much those cost), headers (you will have to deal with the CEL always being on), or the Racingline HFPC. If you want the Racingline HFPC, you only have a day or two left to get in on the group deal that is currently going on. For the $800, you could get both HFPC, and the Y-pipe and call it a day.

Umm... I thought when cats are bad, they can only be replaced with headers?

If the code said CAT malfunction, it means it's the CAT that's bad, not the PRE-cat.

The racingline HFPC replace the cats at the headers. If the Y-pipe cat is not metered, then how could it throw a code...

I have no idea...maybe Allan can chime in here...

$800... That always makes me laugh when I hear it. You can get hew headers and y-pipe for that and eliminate all that gag reflex to the exhaust system.

^^ lol

Just like everyone is saying, you probably need new pre-cats. That's your only problem. If you buy the racingline high-flow-pre-cats you will be done.. But like Don said, you could get the two new cats and the y-pipe for the $800. It all depends on how much you want to spend.
