Default Nismo or eBay Catback??

I know this is probably an easy answer... Nismo right?

Well I guess I am just looking to see what you guys think. I need to replace my exhaust and can't decide whether I should spend the money and get the quality of Nismo or go the ebay route again, but paint it and change the tips.

With the Nismo I'll be into into it for over $800 after extending it.

With the ebay I'm looking at under $300 with different tips and paint.

Is the Nismo really worth $500 more?

I don't think any exhaust is worth 700+ but that's just me. If anything I would get the ebay one, buy some nicer mufflers and there you go. The prices on Nismos and Greddy are ridiculous if you ask me.

(Jacking for a sec).....how much would the dealer charge for a factory exhaust replacement? Compared to the cost of a nismo, provided you could even find one...

Just asking because I may need a replacement for this fact exhaust....under warrantee of course!

I've had both setups. The nismo was great but my wife couldn't stand the drone.
I have the ebay cat back now with resonated oval tips and it's not as loud. I also painted the muffler face black.

My exhaust rusted... That's like saying the underneath of my car is dirty, really?! I bet you money that Nismo or Greddy will rust too. If I had a 40K car and it was show only, sure, I'll spend $1000, but for a daily driven car, Im not buying a $1000 exhaust to be exposed to the nature elements and sound the same as a $200 one, sorry. That's just how I view it.

Different discussion but it seems that the less I do to a car, the stress factor goes down, it doesn't get messed with or nothing really happens to it. As soon as I put money in to it, soemthing happens. I get nice tires, I pick up nails. I get nice wheels, I'll nick a curb but not in the wheels I have now, not once did I touch the curb and trust me, Im very careful with my shit. Anyway, you get what you think will make you happy. I know how most people are though and most people like to show off. They get embarrassed and want to feel good when people ask, they want to say I have Nismo, or I have Greddy, not ebay exhaust. If that's the reasoning behind your decisions, then we know what should be picked here. I for one don't care about that, to me performance of something I buy is everything. If a 200 dollar exhaust sounds the same as a 1000 dollar one but rusts faster, oh well, it's metal, it will do that. I'll paint it and move on. It's underneath the car, who cares. Good luck in your decision, start a poll.

i agree with raz. i believe no matter the price, all exhausts will rust when exposed to the elements. with that said, i would just replace the mufflers unless the pipes themselves look like they are about to fall off. nismo does look much sexier tho...

Default Re: Nismo or eBay Catback??

No rust on my nismo after 3 years. It's biased, but I've preferred the nismo sound since I first heard it. I had heard other setups but didn't plan on doing exhaust until I heard it. I didn't want the off-center tips on the muffler either. My experience isn't very relevant though, as I got in on the old group deal from RideTuner and only paid about $550 for it.

If you budget and plan, paying ~$800 for exhaust on a daily driver isn't a bad choice, people spend more on that for wheels, and they take a lot more abuse.

If you budget and plan, paying ~$800 for exhaust on a daily driver isn't a bad choice, people spend more on that for wheels, and they take a lot more abuse.
Did they just stop making them for the 6thgen?

Hmm.... Maybe I can try and work out a group deal with the Altima one.

Default Re: Nismo or eBay Catback??

hate to tell you this but the ebay and nismo are all made from the same 304-stainless steel. they will both rust at the same rate. the only stainless that wont rust is 316l or 409. what happens with welding stainless is that the nickel is removed from the stainless material thats what makes the rust at the welds. to prevent this we use nictric acid on the welds to keep this from happening but you may need a special permit to even purchase this. im sure a name brand company like nismo applied the second step of nitric acid and pickling the welds were the ebay company would not to save cost

heres what you do to fix your current ebay rusted weld exhaust. you'll need to buy a stainless steel brush from lowes / home depot.

brush the hell out of the welds and clean it with simple green or a strong degreaser

apply a " pickling " agent on the welds so buy this

http://www.airgas.com/browse/product...oduct=AVE59074

wash the welds and you should have your shine back but this time it'll be protected from rust.

you just saved some $ on not buying the nismo

btw

1 rep point sir!
