Default Need Advice With Precat Gutting

Hello. I believe that my precats are bad. I am occasionally getting the rotten egg smell and I use about a quart of oil every thousand miles. Is gutting the cats my cheapest option? I bought this car used and I must say it has been a big disappointment. Shortly after I bought it I spent 1200 dollars fixing the timing chain rattle. I also have some suspension issues and now this. Also, will gutting the cats give me a cel? If so, has anyone used an o2 sim? Thanks so much in advance.

I don't believe your cat issues have anything to do with the oil burning issue. Oil burning is typically an issue with the rings/cylinder walls being worn. I think if you gut your cats, you are going to get a CEL...not sure about the 02 sims...

How many miles are on the car?

Can I hear some more about your setup, im running HFPC and im getting a po420 code and I think it would be the same code you would get with punched cats because the HFPC are pretty much the same thing, you can see right through them

Is this one of the side effects of bad precats and the insides going back into the engine?

You just have to pull them off and punch the cat out, its not hard, hardest part is getting the cats off

and you will feel a little more power, stock is very restrictive

I mean the spacers and wool? That sounds interesting, and what is the purpose of doing this. THanks

Two hours to gut them or two hours for the whole process? Also do any gaskets need to be replaced? Thanks

They are like one and a half inch maybe. Even with just then I personally was still getting the ses light for bad cats. So I stuffed them with the steel wool To choke it further and now it runs great.
