Thanks for the info. Another question how long can you drive on bad ones. What's the worst that could happen?

Eventually you'll get an engine code...if the pre-cat filter material degrades enough, it will start to break apart and totally clog the pre-cat...then the car will really run like crap.

From the dealer there around $400 each (I think), Racingline HFCs are around $550 for both or you can do headers

Your pre-cats are located at the collector of each exhaust manifold...there are two of them. Your catalytic converter is located in the y-pipe. When you bolt on your y-pipe to the car, the split end of the pipe (the side with 2 sections) bolts to the exhaust just under the pre-cats. Hopefully that isn't too confusing. If you look at the very front of your y-pipe, where the split section is, and follow the exhaust past the end of the y-pipe, going up into the engine bay, you will see your pre-cats, just forward of the y-pipe, one on either side.

Your OEM pre-cats are covered under the Nissan emissions warranty. That warranty is upwards of 80K-100K miles (I'm not exactly sure), so you should probably give Nissan a call and see if they are covered before you mess with anything.

As far as the Racingline High Flow Pre-Cats are concerned, there are 2 instances that have been documented here and on the other Org where they have failed shortly after being installed. I LOVE Racingline products, and I use them on my car, but I'm not sure at all about their Pre-Cats. Please do your homework before buying replacements, whether you go OEM, or not.

No, you have very limited options....
1. Headers...very difficult install, check engine light, added noise
2. OEM pre-cats...very expensive, only available from Nissan
3. Racingline HFPC...moderately expensive, Longevity has not been tested/proven yet

Originally Posted by amaxxf09 View Post

The emissions warranty is 80K miles I think, it may be a little more, I'm not sure. The best thing to do is to call Nissan and ask if you are covered under the emissions warranty.

Federal emissions warranty is 80k or 8 years, if any dealer gives you shite about it, tell them under law they are supposed to change them free of charge. And since you are in SMOG heaven Cali, you are going to need the OEM due to the smog rules out there.

I have the same issue. Looks like I'm going back to the dealership next week. Hopefully new pre cats will help mpg as well.
