Default Low Threshold Cat?

So i just bought a 05 maxima sl with 128xxx miles on it , and i already having some problems. First i needed new rotors ,brakes and tranny flush. Now the check engine light came on and says that the cataylitc converter has low threshold. I went back to the dealership and they just shut the check engine light off and say it could have been triggered by pumping anything other than premium , or pumping gas while the car is running.. So i been driving the car and it runs terrible. The car kicks when coming to stops . It high revs when accelerating out of first into 2nd. Has a loud back fire when revving in parked.. Is this the cat ? I dnt really kno whats going out and this guy is jerking me around ..

Very common problem nowadays. Matter of fact, mine is indicating the same, tho' its not acting up as yours as far as drive-ability is concerned. More than likely its the cats!

Wait a bit, then the 'Gurus' will address you better. Sorry you're not fully enjoying the Max you just bought....

Who? The dealer? Didn't know the dealer would even do that (if it's the dealer you're referring to).

You may need to give a little more info other than 'kick'...could be interpreted different ways.

What your describing sounds like you have failing pre-cats. It's a common issue on our cars and is usually reported anywhere from 65K miles-100K miles. If I was a betting man, I'd say that is your issue. If you can get the dealer to replace them since you just bought the car, I'd pursue that angle...it is not a cheap fix. Your only other alternative is Racingline high flow precats, or Cattman headers. If you're mechanically inclined, you can drop your Y-pipe and you should be able to see up into either of the pre-cats. The honeycomb material in the pre-cats breaks down and will clog the cats. Worse case, the material could get sucked back into your engine, causing further problems.

sounds like you've got clogged cats, that backfire means the honeycomb inside the cats are clogged so when you push (accelerate) your creating back pressure and then its blowing it all out causing you to backfire.

dealers WILL NOT put in a USED cat, IIRC its against the law.

I only run premium but not running premium will not cause all of those problems. Deal with the cats first, then watch the tranny they go bad too. Maybe you need to take it back and make a huge deal out of it and get something else.

If you need brakes/rotors you might as well get some from our group buy section
Drilled and slotted look nice.

Time to ask for the owner and throw a fit. Sounds like they are stalling so they don't have to fix the car.
