In general, increasing the volumetric efficiency, which is what aftermarket intakes, headers, and exhausts do, will move the powerband up at the expense of some low end power. They don't just move the powerband though, they give you higher peak hp. Most "tuners" consider it a fair trade off.

Some back-pressure can be a good thing if you want more responsiveness and right-now acceleration at lower rpm's. You won't have that payoff up high though. It's an age old story. This is why a 3-inch exhaust might be great for drag, but is not ideal for a tight autocross course.

If you remove the resonator it looks like this bro and it will not throw any codes. I had this done with the stock mufflers and it made them little louder, sounded good if you don't want too loud.

I know removing the resonator won't cause CEL's I have done it on every car I own. I ask CEL's only since he says it is a noticeable loss in back pressure. Perhaps a code is kicking to make the change and its just coincidence it happened at the same time?

He's just experiencing BP loss due to more flow thru his pipe.

the BEST/WORST thing i ever did was install y pipe, and exhaust. that along with the BOP = Very noticable low end loss. Its slower during Daily driving. At least It screams and pulls up top which is pretty cool. Nice trade off if you WOT much.
