Default How To Setup Short Ram Injen Intake

How do you convert to the short ram setup that you can supposedly do? Is it just getting a filter that fits the first pipe or what? My car is 2007 with the 2 piece injen intake.

This question is geared towards those that have it...Thanks

Injen is a 2 peice deal, all you do is take the longer pipe off and add the filter back on the shorter pipe..

If its not Injen as stated in the last post, you might want to let us know what intake you have. Just a suggestion.

My bad, it is the picture above. The problem is the filter is 3.5" id, then end of the lower pipe flares out to 3.5" od. The short section is only 3" od. The instructions do not explain how to convert

Orbit,

Can't you order a 3" to 3.5" coupling? I know it sucks to have to buy a coupling, but that would solve your problems.

http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...?productid=966

I don't endorse that shop in any way, I just did a quick google search and that popped up.

I could do that, I was just wondering if something in the kit makes it work. On the injen website it says it converts to short ram...they just don't tell you that process. I had bought a Spectre filter while back that used...essentially couplings...to allow 2.5" to 3.5" range for installing...it was a universal filter. The more I think about it, I wonder if thats the idea with this set up. I'll figure out something

Also, maybe your local auto store may have this? Seems the best/easiest way to go

I think Autozone has what you're looking for. I recently converted mine to short air for the winter.

Orbit - I have the same intake and No, nothing on the kit makes it work (I kept looking in the box, thinking I must've missed a part...had me going ). Injen's design on this has 2 issues with the shorter pipe:
  • it has a smaller OD like you pointed out
  • it is too short in length as well (too close to the L strut tower and the filter location is a tight fit beween the strut tower & corner of the battery)
This is what I had done for a workaround: I bought a 6" extension - a 22 degree elbow which flares on 1 end. This made the filter fit and placed it in a better location.

Default Re: How to setup short ram Injen intake?

Well if you guys with the Injen are having the same issues, Did Injen ever advertise as a short and cold air ?

Because the way Injen design is how Fijita should have done theirs..

The reason why the fijita bracket brakes is because it mounts one end on the BODY , and Fijita never left any room for the engine to rock back and fourth, Therefore the bracket brakes..

This is why I cut mines in half and joint a rubber in the middle which allows it to flex , I guess fijita DID not think of this , having a SOLID mounting point BUT the motor rocks which leaves no flex...

Injen had the right idea and design so that it DOESNT break.

This could be the reason why they didnt include parts to make it a short ram.

But very easy to head to Advance or Autozone and get an adapator or coupling to convert it.

I belive Nismo is the only true short ram and cold air intake ? they dont used a bigger OD at the end for the filter...

Simple fix for your injens...but this could be the reason why it was design the way it was..

Thank You! Not that I haven't appreciated the other comments...but I knew somebody else questioned this! I had not attempted to install this intake yet and didn;t want to get stuck with my intake ripped out. I may do a mock up first anyways just for shits. In the past I've used the spectre universal parts...so I'll most likely go the route. Besides this is just for winter...CAI in Maine in winter :rofl3:

Cheeto....What did you do to solve this?

Hey all just an update. I finally installed the intake and I did go Yr1SilverSE's route. I bought spectre filter fits 3-4" intakes and spectre 3" 22 degree elbow total of about $40 at Autozone.
