Default Code P0507: Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected (FIXED)

Ok, So I just fixed the codes that I got after the Cattman Header install. I saw a few threads about this but I wanted to make a fully descriptive one.

After a while, I got this code?

P0507
Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

I haven't touched the throttle body or anything since last year. It looks like it may just need an idle air relearn.

I'm going to do it via the CONSULT II and see what happens. Worse case, I'll try the manual way if I can't get the consult.

My RPM's are currently reading 1100RPM at idle which is quite high.

I don't think its the throttle body. Worse case could be the MAF Sensor but I'm going to start with the idle air relearn first.

Default Re: Code P0507: Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

Manual Procedure as a reference:
  1. Drive the car to "warm up" temperature. Make sure your idle is close to 700 rpm.
  2. Ensure any battery draining devices are off. Ie. headlights, interior dome lights, HVAC, stereo.
  3. Turn the car ignition key to "OFF"
  4. Wait ten seconds
  5. Turn the key to "ON" (not start)
  6. Wait three seconds.
  7. Perform the following five times in five seconds or less. Fully press the gas pedal and release.
  8. Wait seven seconds from last of the five releases.
  9. Fully press the gas pedal and hold down. Within ten seconds the "Service Engine Soon" light should begin to blink.
  10. Wait another ten seconds (while still holding the gas pedal) and the "Service Engine Soon" light should stop blinking.
  11. As soon as it stops blinking, release the pedal, start the car and check the idle (should still be around 700 rpm)
  12. Let the car idle at 700 rpm or so for about 25 seconds, rev the engine a few times and then let it return to idle.
  13. Shut the car down.

Nissan Official Diagnosis Check. Awesome info.!!!

DTC P0507 ISC SYSTEM PFP:23781
Description EBS00C2G

NOTE:
If DTC P0507 is displayed with other DTC, first perform the trouble diagnosis for the other DTC.
The ECM controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let
into the intake manifold, by operating the electric throttle control actuator. The operating of the throttle valve is
varied to allow for optimum control of the engine idling speed. The crankshaft position sensor (POS) detects
the actual engine speed and sends a signal to the ECM.

The ECM controls the electric throttle control actuator so that the engine speed coincides with the target value
memorized in the ECM. The target engine speed is the lowest speed at which the engine can operate steadily.
The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by taking into consideration various engine conditions,
such as during warming up, deceleration, and engine load (air conditioner, power steering and cooling fan
operation, etc.).

On Board Diagnosis Logic EBS00C2H
DTC Confirmation Procedure EBS00C2J

NOTE:
l If “DTC Confirmation Procedure” has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch “OFF” and
wait at least 10 seconds before conducting the next test.
l If the target idle speed is out of the specified value, perform “Idle Air Volume Learning”, EC-677 ,
before conducting “DTC Confirmation Procedure”. For the target idle speed, refer to the “Service
Data and Specifications (SDS)”, EC-1301 .

TESTING CONDITION:
l Before performing the following procedure, confirm that battery voltage is more than 11V at idle.
l Always perform the test at a temperature above -10°C (14°F).

WITH CONSULT-II

1. Open engine hood.
2. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch “ON” again and select “DATA MONITOR”
mode with CONSULT-II.
5. Start engine and run it for at least 1 minute at idle speed.
6. If 1st trip DTC is detected, go to EC-1036, "Diagnostic Procedure"

WITH GST
Follow the procedure “WITH CONSULT-II” above.

My idle is too high on a cold start, my tech said he thinks it's normal but my other tech noticed it a while back and fixed. Now it's back to being to high imo at start up. Over 2500rpm for the first few seconds.

Default Re: Code P0507: Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

Update 11/24/11

So the idle air re-learn DOES WORK. The RPM's drop from around 1000-1080RPM's to around 800RPM which is just right.

BUT If I shut of the car and turn it back on, the RPM's go right back to 1000RPM's. The code doesn't come on right away either. Probably after around 30-40MIN.

The end-result could be just getting another throttle body. But I really don't think that's the problem since I have never touched it nor removed it since like 09'. It could also be a dirty MAF.

I saw a few other additional helpful procedures I'm going to try before replacing anything. I'll post that in a bit.

Default Re: Code P0507: Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

Here's what I'm going to try:

Unplug a fuel injector to force the idle lower and then trying the relearn again. The Nissan TSB says, you can un-plug up to three.

In many cases, the idle relearn will not hold idle is too high to begin with. So unplugging the injectors allows you to force the idle back into the acceptable threshold.

Attached is the Nissan TSB on this.

Most people have thought they needed to replace their throttle bodies but yet got the same issue until the dealer did the Idle Air Relearn via Consult II or this procedure listed.

Default Re: Code P0507: Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

Update 11/25/2011

So I disconnected 3-injectors and the idle was still quite high. At this point I'm definitely thinking its the throttle body because of the idle. With the injectors unplugged, I was expecting the idle to go down to like 650-700RPM. Instead it was right around 870-900RPM.

With that said, I figured since I'm getting another throttle body why not clean it and see what happens? Well I cleaned and the idle wen't around 1200RPM (slightly higher) than before. But with the manual idle air relearn, it would drop to like 1000RPM. Still high.

Next I decided to try the idle air relearn with the consult. It wouldn't take it so I'm just waiting to pick up a throttle body later on today.

RESOLVED!!!

So after all my diagnostics I finally came to the conclusion that it was my throttle body. I met up with a nearby member and he sold me a used throttle body from an 06' Max.

Special thanks to Mr. Dolla for the help with the consult II.

Quick Tip: Here's how I ultimately determined that it was the Throttle Body. I disconnected 3 fuel injectors and the idle was still quite high. Normally you can disconnect up to 3 (per nissan service manual) to bring down the idle and allow the ECU to grab the idle air relearn. If the idle is very high to start with... it might not take the idle air relearn (neither manually nor with consult II). In some cases, it holds the idle air relearn until you shut off the car.

I was like screw it, let me clean it anyway and see what happens. I cleaned and the idle just went slightly higher. Although nothing dramatic. But still high!!

Nick you just need an idle air reprogram. Either do it with the MODIS or CONSULT II and you will be all set.

You can also do it manually, but since you have access to those tools above.... do it through that.
