Default Clogged Catalytic Convertor? What Should I Replace It With?

I have an 05 Maxima SL. The check engine light is on. My mechanic is saying the code is either a clogged cat or a bad oxygen sensor. The car has been idling a little rough. If the Cat is clogged what should I replace it with? I assume the OEM one is ridiculous price wise. I don't want the car to be any louder. Just looking for the cat that is closest to OEM and most reasonably priced.

SES light came on. Took it to dealer. Diagnosed as failing cats. Changed all o2 sensors and the same codes came back the same day.

Hello Gents, I was wondering the person who needed the Cat, how did this work for you? I have about 104 thousand miles on my 2005 Maxima and my Cat sounds like hell. Thinking about a Magnaflow Cat however would this make sense if the bank 2 Cat is still factory and I plan on purchasing a higher performance bank 2 Cat? Thanks!

Hello to all! I have a 06 Altima SER that I absolutely LOVE. Had it since 07. Not into all the aftermarket products, stock gets me from point A to point B, thats all I need. Lol!!! My bf wants me to get new headers. I am having a very difficult time locating any. Any suggestions? BTW, I prefer that the sound doesnt change.

That's tough. With headers, you're almost always going to get a sound change.

Any other bolt-ons your bf is looking at for power gain?

Headers will change the sound of your exhaust, but I do wonder: what if you put on headers and kept the rest of the exhaust stock. Ypipe, Resonator and mufflers. I am guessing it wouldn't sound that bad at all. Of course any performance gains would probably be minimal and you'd have that stupid CEL that doesn't go away.

Raz, I assume he means Magnaflow universal cats. These are what we run at my shop and by far the best universal cat there is. We have tested/experimented with most aftermarket cats and thses come with lowest emissions right out of the box. They dont last more then one e-test (every 2 years in Canada) but in most cases they are 1/5th of the cost or less...
