Default Cats Gone Bad

My max blew a cat earlier, where's a good place to get replacements? I'm thinking about getting the whole eBay setup with the y pipe to cover the exhaust but still need cats. Help please.

What do you need help with?

eBay or your local muffler shop can get you a cat....

@07maximan I definetly need to replace one or both or my cats, and wanted to know where I could get em from without gettin overcharged. Another question is, do the y pipes come with cats on em already?

Personally I would just go to a muffler shop for them. Yes the y pipe has cats but I'm guessing not the one you need. Is it the one coming from the manifold?

Partsgeek.com has em cheap, I would replace both, if you go high flow like racingline which are the only ones that are made they are on back order 545.00 as well, I found in my search because mine are bad too that you can get them for 400ish.. Make sure to replace the O2 sensors as well.

Keep in mind in most places that do a sniffer test, HFCs will not pass.

I'm in DC, I don't know if they do a "sniffer" test but we do emissions, and they won't even let you get in line with a SES light on.

More than likely it's the same thing. I'd think twice about it unless you know a place that'll let it slide.

Nope. Unfortunately we only have 1 place to get inspections done so I guess I have to get em.

The high flow precats from racingline should pass emission test, they still have catalytic material in there and all your sensors plug in, anyone installing them should have zero codes... If you do it right. @BurntOrangeAppeal can correct me if I am wrong or @Racingline. But you should be replacing your O2 sensors when you do the precats.

Now there catless y-pipe will make you fail, because they eliminate the third cat...

Unless your in California because most aftermarket precats don't pass there even the ones that are pen stock replacement. Long story short California sucks. Here where I live we only have a visual inspection.yeahhhhhhhh buddy.

Thats correct. Hi flow or replacements will pass if everything is done correctly and the sensors are working properly. I passed california State limits with headers and a single cat.( took some work to fiqure it out) but if thats doable then there is no way a 2 cat setup will not pass.

Ordered the high flow cats from racingline. They're backordered, but I got ahold of them and they said they are shipping out 7 days after orders are placed

Racinglines will pass emissions. I had mine installed two years ago and passed with no issues. Unfortunately, I am throwing P0420s and an occasional P0430 so I need to replace my precats ASAP. Also heard from RL that it's about 2 weeks from order to delivery.

I couldn't get an o2 SIM to work after a month of trying.

Well you have a few choices my friend....

Replace your precats with OEM which the last time I check the dealerships sold for $700 each. Price did not include labor, figure four hours. You'll be $2,000 all-in.

Go headers and roll the dice on whether you get codes or not. Some guys have had success in running headers with no codes. Not sure what the cattmans are going for, but $800 w/o labor is probably a good estimate.

Go HFPCs for $500 for both and figure on swapping them out every few years.

good luck

Agreed...I actually have hfpc's on the way, and was just wondering how long they lasted. And yep, OEM are still $700 at the dealership. How about NO...

I think I'm gonna go HFPC too, I got my mechanic to clear the code, I waited 5 days then went through inspection and passed. But I know that's something I need to take car of soon, so I figure RL HFPC, and an eBay catback with vibrant mufflers....I'm still thinkin about the y-pipe though. Will the eBay y-pipe fit the RL precats?

Man I'm glad I don't have to deal with inspections here. That sounds like a good plan to me. I'm planning on ebay catback with vibrants myself. And I don't see why it WOULDN'T fit...the RL precats are direct bolt-on replacement. I don't think there would be any issues. I didn't even realize there an "eBay y-pipe"...

Yeah. The y-pipe actually comes with the Altima headers on ebay, and I think it should fit since the engines are the same. I'd actually buy the Altima headers+ypipe combo just to have the y pipe it still comes out less then the RL ypipe and I wouldn't have to wait foooorrrrreeeeever to get it.
