Default Any1 Running Gutted Cats?

just wondering if any1 else on this site gutted their cats? i been lookin on maxima.org and other car forums and been getting mixed reviews.

some sites say that it may cause problems with the air flow (srt-4 forum), one is saying that theres a dead spot around 1800-2500 rpm (gm website), one is saying it may cause motor problems (honda). and on each site there will be the few guys claiming they've been running gutted cats with no problems.

i have a 111k on this motor and im imagining my pre-cats are bound to go in the near future and figured i'd look into the option. headers are no where near my budget at the moment so im looking at the cheaper route. but then again i won't do it if it will hurt me in the end.

I'm fixing to delete all my cats, I'll let you know. However from doing this type of stuff to my cars for the past 15 years, I've never seen an engine blow up because the cats were deleted.

I personally wouldn't gut it. Just save up for headers and do it the right way.

I have done it on every maxima I have owned without issue. take care to remove the O2 sensor first to not mess it up. I plan on doing that with my car before the summer ends. I have to save up for cattman headers and then hope to find some but til then I don't see a need for cats since I don't have testing here.

You must not have emission inspection in ur neck of the woods, cuz doing it if u do will result in you failing. Like Raz said, it will not harm ( I've never seen a motor blown up either). If anything, it'll loosen up a bit more on the hp's of ride as it (exhaust gases) flows freer! The hard part is the taking off, gutting and such, but if it's not in ur budget, like many of us, and ur local state laws/inspections won't mess with ya...go for urs! If ya still concerned, like Eddy said-save some bread...

if you have inspection this may raise the exhuast level higher.

I gutted my U13 Altima and all the local guys also came to me and I gutted them and open up the down pipe a little.

No issues at all.

if i do headers its will be from ebay. cause i can't justify spending 650-700 bucks for headers and then another 400-500 to get them on for a car with such high mileage and no thoughts of rebuilding.

also jersey does have inspection but there is always the mom and pop place that will pass u for a lil extra $$. thanks for the info
