Default Temperature gauge pinned on hot when car runs for a while

Guys,

Having some problems with my '07 recently, where the temperature gauge is literally pinned as high as it can go on hot when the car is on and not moving for a while. First time it happened was on the way home from Maxus stuck in traffic, and today had the car on with A/C running for about 20 minutes and same thing. I don't seem to have a coolant leak, and the coolant level is ok, fans go on intermittently while the car is running. Anyone have any ideas of what I can check so I can avoid a costly trip to the dealer? Water pump? Some kind of temperature sensor not keeping the fans running long enough? Any and all help is appreciated.

Man, unfortunately your only choice is the dealership because the gauge is broken. Your ride is probably perfectly functional besides that, it happens. If you feel like you could live with that for a while then I don't see the reason for going to the dealership until you got the cash.

No, I've been avoiding the dealership as I don't feel like paying to have them look at it. I guess I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again, although I know that's not the case. I was thinking about getting the NWP spacers to see if it might help, but need to find someone to install them for me, not confident enough to take that on myself.

How will NWP spacers fix the problem? I would want that fixed if it was my car, how will you know if your car starts to overheat?? You willing to burn your engine?

I agree with Ray, this is something you need to get fixed before you start blowing head gaskets. NWP Spacers will only cool your intake manifold, not the motor. This isn't a small problem, all it takes is one time overheating to start burning shit up.
