Question Stuck In 5th Gear... WTF

So i had to go into Queens today for work and when i was leaving, I auto started the car it did not turn over. When i got in the car i had to turn the key longer than usual to get it to turn over. I then put the car in Drive and the car jerked HARD when passing R and again when i went into drive. When i pushed it over to Manual mode it showed that the car was actually STUCK in 5th gear while @ a stand still... I had like no pick up and the car was not shifting even when i tried to do so manually it jerked hard like my tranny was going to fall off onto the street!! I thought my tranny was done!!

I called my BFF Jonny and he instructed me to Pull and Re plug he MAF. As soon as i did this it was all good!!! First gear reappeared the car started like it should and i drove back to nassau with no prob.

REP FOR JONNY I APPRECIATE THE HELP FAM!!!

QUESTION... do i need to replace the MAF?

That is not making me too optimistic... I drove it for a while today and no probs... i guess i will have to wait and see if it happens again...

Well i was all good yesterday until around 7pm. car cut off while i was leaving the gas station and i threw a code.... @ least i will know whats goin on when i go to autozone today after work... Just to be safe i parked the car@ the drive and borroed dad's CTS for the day... hope its not too bad!!..

If i do need a transmission... to be covered by warranty with no questions how much do i have to take off of the car? Mods include 19" rims, Greddy cat back, Catman Y-Pipe, Nismo intake.

Camm just get a new MAF you will be good to go your transmission is fine....all you did was unplug the maf n plug it back in n it worked you still havent cleared the code so it will repeat itself...get that code off and u will be good to go...autozone should be able to clear your code for you if not hit me up again and ill see what i can do...also buy that maf from blkmagic as a spare.

Also the dealer allows intakes and catbacks...so if you were to bring it in put your stock rims back on and also your stock y-pipe....the dealer is very sensitive about your CATS n you dont have all 3

damn if his dealership is that anal, i would not take my shit back there. Any time I took my car in for warranty work I never put my wheels back on, even when they did an alingment I kept my 20s on and had no problems.

She has never has warranty work done on her car... I am up in the air about which dealership to go to because i live right near one and there is also one that is close by where i actually purchased it.


Both Jonny and Alex have said to disconnect the battery so i am going to do that in order to reset the computer and also have the code cleared... Jonny... i may go to the autozone by your house... ill hit you up if i do.

Simplest things can save you lots of money. Whenever there's a failure with something always check your sensors, relays and fuses thoroughly. Many people wound up paying hundreds to grands for something that only would of cost them $20 bucks if they had checked those electrical parts. And being that your cars is drive-by-wire its especially important to check all electrical attributes before spending money on a part that's not needed.

Thank u for those of u helping me mr.doll,k-Ryder,hero74 or something,croyix, n eddymaxx. N if I missed somebody P.S. Forgive me.

Anyway after 5 time getting stuck in 5th gear "Service Engine Soon" light came on so today I went to autozone n I got Cam crankshaft position sensor bank 2 code. So later I called Nissan part said $80 with 10% of discount.

I said okay I'm on my way which is 45 min from my house. Before I get to the exit my car was kicking back about 7 time When I got to there exit after 2 traffic light my
engine died I see all I can see all light on so I waited for to cops show up. Finaaly they did they push my back bumper with there car so I can pull in to office depot parking lot.

Later I went to Nissan dealer get the part n my Mechani put it in for me in 5 min so he said crank the car up so I did all my gears back to normal n running like is supposed to be.

He did not clear the code so I clear the code by following reset cel at technosquare.com

I thought my tranny giving up on mr but is was the sensor.




Do I need to reset TCM if so can somebody chime in n tell me how's to?

my on max keeps getting stuck in 5th gear the dealer told me it was the tranny. I got that rebuilt, and two days later is began doing the same thing. I also change the cam sensors and the vias solenoid sennsor. I am thinking I have a ecu problem. Does anyone have any ideas

I am located in queens but my car is at a shop on queens blvd. The cam sensors were the first thing I change.

they can't figure it out. THe car is not give any codes. They said when i first took the car gave a 726 code. They had a new tcm computer so they put it in still nothing. They deal with five town nissan so they took it there to get looked at. I dont know if you could take a look at it, and give me your expert opinion.

Hey guys,

Great thread and I am now part of it.
Today morning suddenly when I start my car, it stared perfectly like normal days. I put it in Reverse and a sudden jerk. Again back in D, JERK..

When I started pressing accelerator - I feel no power at all, switched to manual mode and found its stuck in 5th Gear ( 2004 Maxima SE AUTO ). I could not lower it to 1/2.
So, I get the picture why I felt no power ( stuck in 5th gear ), once I reach above 30 mph, it seems to be fine. No jerks from 0 to 50 mph.
Just when I switch R to D or manual mode to D. Why is this jerk ?

My service engine is not yet on but I found one error code , P0340. Camshaft Sensor bank 1. I will replace that today anyways.
I tried again few minutes back and could not replicate the problem.

My question is are we sure this happens only because of the sensor ? or there could be something else..

Default Re: Stuck in 5th Gear... WTF

Took my car to the dealer and they told me it could be even my timing chain. Timing chain may get stretched enough and produce false reading for cam shaft sensor ..does that sound reasonable ?
they quoted me $1200 for timing chain. but trust me, I get the ticking/rattling noise only during start up. after few miles of driving ( infact 2/3 miles ), it vanishes. And I am living with this since last 1 year. No power loss or MPG loss. I still get above 28 MPG ( sometime 30 ) in freeways depending on the load.
Anyways, I denied their service ( quoted $280 for just bank 1 sensor replacement WTF) so I bought the parts and replaced both of the sensors. Bank 1 was totally filled with oil.
So far car is running smooth.I dont know whether it actually was the problem.

But the initial rattle is still there.Dont know what to do. Get rid of this car or repair that from a local mechanic for less than $1000
