Default Rotten Egg Smell- Pre Cats?

So, my new Maxima is showing signs of bad precats, from what I understand from searching previous threads on the topic.

Under hard acceleration, the cabin smells like rotten eggs. Very frustrating for a new car to exhibit this symptom. There is only 64k on it, and its an 04. Federal emissions warranty expired 3 months ago

1. How long until it throws a code?

2. How much does this cost to repair from the dealer? What about buying the HFC, then having an independent shop do the install?

3. Will this affect engine performance and fuel economy?

Thanks. Some additional questions:

How much is the cost to install the cats? The linked thread only shows cost of the part.

Is there any other cause of this smell? The battery was replaced two days ago, and the car has not been accelerated hard since. I'm wondering if the ECU had to be recalibrated?

I just drove it again to see if it would produce the egg smell again, it didnt. So far it was just the one time, when I first got it.

No one can give you a price for install cuz each shop will charge differently. I recommend you go to a reputable shop and get a quote.
