Default Replacing Your Motor Mounts (Might Not Be Your Tranny)

Hey guys,

Alright well I noticed especially within the last month that my cars "tranny" was feeling BAD. like banging into gears... not responding quick enough, banging from 1st to 2nd. This got me real nervous. I had looked over everything with my car while changing my alternator at my boy's shop. I noticed my rear motor mount and tranny mount were both F*cked. I'm talking to the point where my rear motor mount wasn't doing much besides dangling around, the rubber on it was shot! My tranny mount had also snapped. Needless to say my boy "topdolla" was quick to respond with a motor mount for me. I replaced it tonight and the tranny mount is getting ordered this week.

The rear motor mount itself.... now that it's installed there's absolutely NO JERK in my tranny AT ALL. The mount itself has a power cord (which has to do with some type of motor response, but not sure). Basicly I changed my mount and my car runs like it's got 100 miles on it. THERE IS NO TRANNY JERK! and as far as my response from park to drive... FAST AND RESPONSIVE... ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. I feel like i have a new Maxima.

So please guys check your motor mounts and your tranny mounts before jumping the gun and saying your tranny is messed up. You'll be the happiest person when you realize it's a mount! I know I am.

The dealer is the only way to go as far as mounts and My suggestion is to get them OEM anyways.

Here's the avg cost at the dealership for the parts:

Rear Motor Mount: $250
Tranny Mount: $120 Part Number: 11220-8Y000 (Insulator Assy.)
Front Motor Mount: $160

I replaced my front one on Oct. 31st 2009.
I replaced my rear one on March 15th 2010.
I replaced my Tranny Mount on March 20th 2010
I replaced my Pass. Mount on March 29th 2010

Some things to notice:

I had a grinding noise driving completely no matter what gear I was in. Almost sounded like the tranny was running without fluid. (Metal to Metal sound)
This ended up being the pass. mount. I was told this is a frequent problem with our generation. These mounts go out all the time. It's located on top by your coolant container. Just peel back the rubber garment and see if it's cracked.

yeah but that doesnt stop the 5 second delay from park to drive... and the slipping i had going to 2nd to third... only thing it will do is minumize the banging. its still the tranny. i had the normal symptoms (delay, slipping, banging, destroyed motor mounts).

Good info. Motor mounts are easily visible when they are cracked or really bad. For example...shifting from Park To Drive you feel a jump....one of the symptoms of a bad mount.

Most 6thgens have broken motor mounts and they don't even know it. I'll see if I can find some pics of mine when I replaced it.

Brian... Can you get the exact part # for the motor mounts? Remember there is a difference between the 4spd and 5spds. The 4spd/6spd are exactly the same.

Default Re: Replacing Your Motor Mounts (Might Not Be Your Tranny)

just replaced the tranny mount today... it was completely broken and a b*tch to change.

For Future Reference to everyone changing their tranny mount:

Take off the front mount
Take a piece of wood and a jack and jack up the tranny
make sure you have another jack under the car
Then over by the front drivers side tire under the wheel well cover is the tranny mount
It's 5 bolts. You'll need a 14mm Deep Socket and a Breaker bar. (I used .5" breaker)
Once the bolts are off and the front mount is taken off the mount is easily swappable.
Avg. Time about 2-3hrs.

i'll post pix of the broken mount

i still dont understand how that will eliminate the Park to drive delay... mine was real bad sometimes on a hot summer day after driving 20 miles there would be a 5 second delay. yeah obv it wont bang as bad but it also doesnt eliminate slipping...
