Default Power Loss

Guys and gals. I have a concern with my car. It seems like my car doesn't have the kick like it used to. So far what have done was my had some work done timing chain repair and I have had about 4 oil changes due to oil leaks and timing chain repair paid by the warranty. Should i start replacing plugs and give it a tuneup, Right now it has about 71,000 miles.

Their not just going to start replacing stuff. The timing chain tensioner will cost around 2400.00 from a dealer. They won't do it as preventative maintenance. The plugs should be good until at least 100k. Maybe get a fuel injector service.

Yes I would do a tune-up as the mileage is almost there.
If the tune-up does not improve things and you feel like you are accellerating aggresively and the car is slugish, it might be due to the fact that one or maybe both of your cats might be starting to get plugged/melted especially if you own an 04-06 as these vehicles cats are gettibg replaced quite a LOT.

Tensioners are $1400 at the dealer, Pops.

I'd replace the plugs anyway.. Clean up your intake manifold for possible oil buildup and injectors. Have the cars checked for any clogs/wear.

Maybe by you. I asked one day for the hell of it and the service advisor told me it could go up to 2700.00. Maybe we were talking about 2 different things but that's what he told me...

Please do yourself a favor and try to find a reliable independent mechanic and don't mess around with Pep Boys.

They are fine if you need to pick up some wax or tire shine or even a set of stick on port holes.

Now that you mention there was an oil leak on the upper manifold and the car still smell like burning oil smell even after they fixed the leak. Dealer told me that it will smell for a while. Took the car like in mid May.

It's different from dealer to dealer actually. The dealer closer to my house is much cheaper than the dealer 15 mins away. That dealer wanted $2700, the dealer in Corona, Ca wanted $2800, and the dealer nearby my house charged me $1400.

Just giving you an update. I just took my car to the dealership for an issue in which the car stays accelerated even when I stop accelerating while i am driving. According to them they replaced the throttle body and the MAF sensor because it gave me a check engine light. It is still doing the same thing. Could a bad cat give you back pressure and cause the RPMS not to drop when i let go of the accelerator ? [/SIZE]

Yes,
Think of it this way, could you run a marathon with a straw in your mouth? Would your breathing be affected shortly after you stopped running?
Have someone use a video inspection camera ( called a snake) and unbolt the front A/F sensors and have a peek through that bung at your catalytic material....

that rotten smell could mean time for a new battery too but, it doesnt seem like the battery would be the problem in your case. the stock cats are known to break apart pretty bad, if you still have under 80k and the car is less than 8 years old, take it to a dealership and have them diag. it. i know you want to save money and it sounds counter intuitive but if you take it to the dealer and the problem is a cat, the federal gov. will award you up to a grand to replace it. this is a warranty that is not exclusive to any manufacturer but rather enforced on them all, the gov't. passes laws that have regulated the emissions systems on cars today (EPA enforced) that allow a vehicle (more over the owner of said vehicle) that is either less than 8 years old or has less than 80,000 miles be awarded anywhere up to 1000 dollars to perform the work and pay for the part of said components (in this case the cat) related to emission functions.

in other words if youve been told or have enough automotive knowledge to daignose it yourself to know it is a cat for sure, bring it to a dealer ship. one inexpensive way to daig. a bad cat is to go to autozone or a place that will rent you a heat gun (could even pay and independent shop to do this for you and it would still be worth it) and measure the heat coming off the cat in two areas, the area of the cat that is closest to the engine and then the area of the cat that is closest to the tail pipe, if there is less than a hundred degree drop, more than likely your cats insides have diminished and must be replaced or you may have an exhaust leak (the more unlikely of the 2). Like i said, by doing this and finding out weather or not it is your cat and if your vehicle does fall within these parameters as stated above, the dealership (nissan) will have to replace it BY LAW. if not then i wrote a bible worth of drab emissions law, however this may be helpful for others unaware.

btw, im a newbie and more over a cave man caught in space phone times but, how the hell do you put a video on this site?
