Default Peppiness is GONE!

Hey guys....I posted this on the big org too.....I had my NWP spacers plus the racingline precats and y-pipe installed last week. When I drove it off, I could really feel the difference as the car just screamed off the line and really pulled north of 4-5K.

One of the things I did notice was that at idle I was making 1100 RPM. And of course after about 50 miles of driving, a CEL appeared. I pulled the code at home which was a P0507.

Normally I probably would have let this go, but I needed to run my car through emissions so I performed the idle relearn manual reset, which took me about 45 minutes to get the timing and the sequence correct. But it all worked and RPMS dropped to the low 700's at idle.

My problem, or maybe it's not a problem, is that the car doesn't seem quite as peppy off the line or through the band. Now that I've passed emissions, is there any way (outside of a tune) to "unlearn" the idle? Does anyone know of someone reputable in AZ that could do a tune?

Thanks in advance

For what it's worth.....I also have a Fujita CAI installed too. 06 SE. No other mods besides the CAI and stuff I mentioned above. I have 150,000 miles on the car and just replaced the plugs as well.

All those mods are basically for top-end power so you lose your low-end.

And yess... your peppiness that normally kicked in at lower RPMs is gone due to all those mods. Now you need a tune. All you need is to get an SAFC2 to tune your air/fuel ratios.

Your air to fuel ratios are now all off balanced and you need to tune it for optimal performance.

I don't think a lot of people realize that it is always a tradeoff. If you want to add torque, you will lose high end (horsepower), if you want to add horsepower (top end), you will lose torque. This is with bolt-ons. The only way around it is to add an arificial power adder (nitrous/turbo/blower)

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I was very aware there was a trade-off and expected some low end lag and the big gains in the mid-range of the band. The trade-off before I did the idle relearn seemed much less than it is now so that's why I am asking if there is a way to "go back". I imagine it's going to be via a tune as you all have suggested.

I thought the spacers woke up the lower and mid range power... offset the other mods

With a tune it will be balances. Bunch of mods together just cancel each other out. Either too much air and not enough fuel... or too much fuel not enough air.

I need to find someone local for a tune. Time for a search or a post in the regional forums.
