Default Oil Consumption

So I have a 2004 maxima,I do oil changes from 6 to 8k.in between I constantly check my oil,I have noticed that from the first week of the oil change the oil stays where it was filled, about 3 to 6 days later my oil is showing to be low on the dipstick?I read on google that there is a ring where the oil filter is mounted and I changed it already as the old one was .08 smaller than the oem one.I now noticed I have a small oil leak but it has been consuming oil way before this?any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks

Well the VQs are a bit known for oil consumption , unless you have bad Piston Rings...its quite normal.

where did you get that info about the O-ring in the Oil Filter? is that documented on the internet ? if so , could you post it up for me to read ?

He may be talking about the rubber gasket on the oil filter. I know sometimes those stick to the block, and you have to make sure you pull it off before putting on the new filter.

Its an actual o-ring that goes on the housing for the oil filter its an orange seal and it somehow keeps leaking.I had to remove some coolant lines in order to pull it out and replace it.I'm trying how to copy and paste on my phone so I can put the article up.but I'm having difficulty through my phone.I appreciate the concern u guys are taking, and its definately something I've started looking out for

Oil cooler seals tend to leak. Like Nizmo said they're known for burning oil. How many miles?

So its something normal on the vq's?and I currently hit 128,000k.I put heavier weight oil like 15w-30.seems to help somewhat but I wish I wouldn't have so many issues.lol.at first I thought it might have to do with the timing chain issue.

no but if you start running on low the timming chain guides will start rattling/ticking...

When I was driving my car DAILY ( key word ) I would make sure im at 5.5 QTs of oil.

This is a common issues on the VQs , its more worse in the RWD Platforms

Is there no issue with running more oil than recommended? I am just wondering because I just bought my car and am paranoid

^^ yups ,sounds about right on the price from Nissan....

Sometimes I wish I stayed working for them years ago... If I had to do a timming chain (2) a week I would be good = )

it is a PITA in our cars only because theres barely room VS a 4th gen Maxima.
