Default Is My Nissan Dealer Trying To Steal My Money?

About four days ago my car started to act weird( service engine soon came on-on the dashboard and the car felt like it was loosing power. I went to autozone to get the code read, and error code p0740 came up. Sadly, I went to Nissan today and after they charged me 105 for diagnostics, the representative said I need a new tranny. I need advice because I'm not sure if I really do need a new tranny or can I get the car fixed with the level10 valve body. Dealerships are often known as stealership. Any advice is appreciated. I don't want to lose my max. I live in the Bronx. Any help is accepted

Damn dude, sorry to hear that. Hope it is something you can fix that's much cheaper than the tranny. Hopefully someone has some good advice for you.

I recently got the car from a deceased family member. (Blessed me with the car before passing). The car is a 04 Max SE 112k. It has a D to P delay and rough shifting. At times the car hiccups when down shifting. I call the issue the "valve body" problem. Also, the car feels like it is loosing power when accelerating. Help anyone. I'm scared that Nissan wants me to replace whole tranny instead of VB .

I wouldn't go rebuilding the tranny jus yet. I've done a bunch of VB on Maximas and usually it fixes the hard shifts and the delay from P to D. When rebuiding a transmission they replace the VB anyway so why not try replacing the VB and spend about $1000 than going ahead and spending more to fully rebuild it. If it is really that bad then you can rebuild it and you would already have the VB.

While I have to agree with you on saving a little , there's always that chances that if he purchase a VB and pay for the install.

There's a 50/50 percent chances (like me from personal experience back when I own a Ford and I was young ) that the other parts may also be bad and get charged yet again for another repair.

But again that's 50/50 , a reputable tranny shop would be able to tell you what you need.

to the OP , I would shop around and call up some transmission shops and get some quotes and have them drive the car and get at least 3 different opinions before you make a call.

Absolutely right. I did one on a pathfinder and 2 days later, I was taking the tranny down but on the other hand a lot of shops will just tell you to rebuild it without trying to just replace the VB. Personally, I would change the VB first and if it doesnt work then get it rebuilt, it doesnt hurt. OP, I wouldnt let Nissan replace it just because they want a ton of money. Take Nizmos advice and shop around.

Yes don't buy a used tranny either, as I did earlier when I purchase my Maxima,

I got 2nd tranny with 30k low miles, some of the same thing started happening but not as bad.

I would go ask a transmission shop for some quotes, its been document the parts that are needed and some pricing.

Uninstalling & Installing New Valve Body

The same thing happened to me when I first bought my Max and the dealership said the same, so I went and got a second opinion and it turns out that my front exhaust was cracked so it was causing my transmission to lose power, that's when I went and got my headers installed and the rest of my mods, now she's working like a charm.

Ahh man what a headache.. I'm going to take a chance and install a new valve body, then pray to god. Most likely I will need to repair the motor mounts and ect. The most important question is which VB should I use: level10 or Nissan oem. Also, if I use Nissan's how can I make sure I'm getting the new-revised VB. Thanks guys

When Nissan sells the new VB its automatically the new version. Its updated in their system. As for which VB to buy just compare price and which one will suit you best. VB from Nissan is about $700 and some change. Not sure what Level10 charges but do your homework. GL.

Bad news: I picked up my max today from Nissan. They said that my transmission is "contaminated" with metal shavings. I asked how much was a new transmission and he said $5,000
Is there anything I can do about metal shavings and can I call it the end of my car?

I wouldnt say the end of your car, there are ways to fix it.

find a used tranny and have it rebuilt before it goes in the car.

or maybe a tranny shop can replace the internals for you.

but Nissan doesnt do trannys, normally techs just search for a refurb and slap it in there.

It doesnt pay them to mess around internally in the tranny since alot of them aren't trained to do that.

Check local junk yards to try and save on shipping, car-parts.com is great too. Also did you actually see the metal shavings for yourself? Did they show you the fluid?
