Default Lost Ability To Accelerate

I was driving home from a weekend in NJ doing about 80 or so and all of a sudden my car decided that hitting the gas pedal would do nothing. I was able to find a place to pull over on the road and get enough off the road not to be hit.

Put the car in park and turned it off. Turned it back on and was able to rev it in park, put it in drive and nothing. Then went and put it in neutral and was able to rev it, put it in drive and nothing. Then went to reverse and was able to go backwards, put it in drive and was able to drive away like nothing happened.

Lately i've also been having my ebrake light and battery light randomly come on on my dash. My ebrake has not been up, nor is my battery bad. The light was on when the car did the above, and came off when the car finally wanted to move again.

So the car is off to the dealership, going to have them look at why my heat only blows when the car is moving and why cold air blows when parked or idling.

Any one every have these things happen to them?

When is the last time you've check the alternator ?

our cars will go into a limp mode if the main fuses blow , if your alternator isnt charging right, any electrical issues, (DBW ) drive by wire throttle body gets stuck , over heats.

it sounds like your not charging correctly and didnt see enough voltage and goes into limp mode, the ECU needs to see a certain voltage through out the system.

any SES light came on? Jsmith recently had this happen to him as well

Also, the heat issue is usually due to air pockets in the radiator, is your antifreeze resivoir at a descent level. Might be 2 seperated issues.
My max went into limp mode when my tailights went out (led ipcw ones) Only did the limp mode with the lights on, in the daytime worked great.

Need coolant in your radiator. That's why it blows cold air. If its low it will overheat the engine and it will also make the heater not work properly. You have a heater core located inside the dash, it uses the coolant to create heat in which it circulates throughout the engine into the radiator. If low, your heat will not work efficiently causing you to have to drive to get heat, but then you also cause your engine to overheat. So check your coolant level in the radiator. If you see none inside refill the radiator and refill the reservoir.

As for the acceleration your car is drive by wire, which means there could be 100 reasons as to why its not working properly. That's what you get for driving a car full of computers. Take it to the dealership let them run some diagnostic test on it to see the problem. Could be a sensor, alternator, computer, fuses, etc. So check it out. And let us know.

Yeah I saw Jay's post after posting this. Main difference to his issue was that he could drive the car and I couldn't. I could move it to drive and no matter how much pressure I put on the gas there was no movement at all. RPM's just stayed at 0, but like I said in first post the other gears allowed me to either rev or move. No CEL came on and my lights were not on. On the way to the dealership I had the lights on but that wasn't an issue.

As far as the coolant that was the first thing I checked. It was a little on the low side but not horrible, filled it up and it didn't fix anything. Cars at the dealership now. Hopefully it's something simple, but either way i've already started looking into next cars to purchase.

Did you fill it in the radiator cause the reservoir isnt where it needs to be. You can fill the reservoir and still have the issue. You can also try to add pressure by squeezing the coolant hoses as the car is on. It'll be hot after a while but be sure to have gloves on when doing this, if nothing then you may need to drain and burp the system to get the air out. Then refill the system 50% coolant and 50% water. Then try it again and you should be good. Its an annoying process trust me. This happens to all cars.

Radiator reservoir was filled every time I checked. I had heard of burping the system but never had time. Was planning on having a shop do it but again time wasn't on my side so i decided to just monitor it and see were it went. Engine never showed signs of overheating either.

So dealership told me the following:

Heating issue is due to a leaky pipe, alternator isn't charging, 2 belts are cracked and rear sway bar end links are broken. Total cost to fix everything will be about a grand. Hopefully that does it for a while. Still need to get my axle's redone but that will wait till after winter.

They think it was the alternator but won't be certain until they replace that and then run some other tests.

Well like I said before it sounds like a charging issues,

contact Dolla , doesnt he do work in the NY area ?

I wouldnt even go back to the dealer for that price,

I just recently got a 130AMP ( I30 ) Alternator $70 bucks
Labor DIY but for someone else probally 80-100 bucks.
and while hes doing that , you can purchase the belts for $30 bucks or so?

Leaking pipe ? the only pipe that would leak is the front pipe which you can purchase and change out,

end links can be upgrade to racingline Racingline V2 Style Rear Endlinks

Price (usd) $77.99

I still dont see a GRAND , I mean if I was out to get your pockets I would say " Hey pay me a Grand and I get that done for you "

Altho Im not that type of guy , I rather see ppl save money but at the same time I wont do it for free, but I wouldnt charge 1 grand to do something so simple.

I think you need to get in contact with Dolla

Just had this happen to myself today. Seems to be that the alternator i jusr replaced on friday went out again, and im guessing the car senses there isnt enough voltage to run properly and throws it into tard mode. What was wierd in my case is the battery light never came on. And the sucky part is im 30 miles away from my garage.
