Default Infamous Ticking Noise

So lately I've been hearing this faint ticking noise coming from the engine when I would start up the Max. I thought I just needed an oil change but after that it didnt stop and seemed to get louder as days went by. So I decided to take it to my shop yesterday after reading the stickie on the infamous ticking sound. Turns out my timing chain tensioners are bad plus all four motor mounts were bad.:frown: What a way to start the new year. The good news out of all of this is the owner of the shop can fix everything for $1300 and have it ready by Friday. There goes my money for my Vossens.

sucks man but at least you get it back soon. 1300 dosent seem too bad. You mention timing chain tensioners above but when we talked you said the timing chain is badd too. if you are replacing the timing chain, might as well change the water pump while you are in there

Good luck man and PS. gotta keep the car running or those vossens will look crazy just parked up, haha

Why don't you save money and tell the shop you'll get the parts and for him to only charge labor.

Get your parts from Mr. Dolla and have the shop install... might come out even cheaper.

This is a good idea, but the $1300 doesn't sound like a bad price.

For that quick of a turn-around $1300 is fair with parts/labor.

Yeah the owner is a close friend of mine and he got the parts at 25% off. I said for the price of the parts and labor $1300 wasnt bad at all. I already called him about the water pump too.

Very true. $1,300 isn't a bad price, but if he can save money even more, why not try?

He's giving him the parts at 25% off, but he can probably get even more savings by buying the parts himself through Mr. Dolla. It doesn't hurt to shoot him a PM and ask about the price of tensioner kit and mounts. I know mounts are cheap as hell through him..

I'm not saying your friend is ripping you off at all bro, just save more money if you can.. that's imo.

Its more than likely that its going but did you try adding .5 QT of oil ?

it may reduce the ticking some but its not a total fix for you if they are bad.

Sorry for not updating you guys on this. So I took my car to get the timing chain and motor mounts replaced and turns out the timing chain was half of the problem. One of the rod bearings was bent, there goes my motor..turns out its cheaper to just buy another motor than having them break down my motor, fix it then put it back together. its costing me 2K for the motor and install. Plus the motor only has 60k on it. i think this is pretty reasonable.

Well in that case get it, but still have the parts changed in the new motor so you wont repeat this step again.

It's not the same thing as he was experiencing. What your talking about is normal for a lot of cars after you turn them off. Well, it isn't as bad as domestic cars though.

Now, if you hear a ticking noise when your in idle or driving when the car is on than you have a problem.

i thought that the timing chain noise(aka fake supercharger noise) was common in all of the 3.5's lol, i just did mine at 180k it ran like 350, they really aren't that bad to do i guess, my buddy does at least one a week, he says he hasn't seen any in the new 3.5's though, only head gasket problems now..so i guess something else to look forward too
