Default How Much Vibration Is Normal At Idle?

Is it normal to feel the steering wheel vibrate a bit when at idle at a stop light?

Lol, I said touch. You can spray it lightly and let the dirt drip down. But once you touch the butterfly. Your idle will be all over the place.

Yes, if you know what you are doing then it works out. But the average person moves the butterfly not knowing that it is electronically controlled.

Most people have had to buy new ones. You can search for countless issues of people having to replace their throttle bodies on maxima.org.

You can def. clean it but be cautious and careful about it.

Idle is very stable, I can just feel a very minor vibration at the steering wheel when the car is idling. Was wondering if its normal.

Our throttle body is electronic. If you touch it by hand you mess it up and then it has to be reprogrammed. Ask me how I know.

Time for new motor mounts, that's what it sounds like.

To clarify, the amount of vibration is enough to where you cannot see the steering wheel move at all. It can only be barely felt, similar to if you had your hand on an xbox 360 while it was on.

How do the electronic motor mounts work?

By that description, I'd say your vibration is normal.

Sometimes in cold weather, my '08 will vibrate more because of a higher idle, but you'll just hear it in the dash or a-pillars, etc.

If it's not loud or you don't see anything moving, I'd say you're running normal.

The motor mounts aren't electronic, just one of the first things to check if you're seeing bad vibrations or shudders. Once those go, engine forces transfer to the frame and rest of the vehicle super easy.

Sounds normal then, only car I have owned that didn't have any type of vibration is my X5. Sometimes I cant even tell if the car is on or not. I do feel small vibration in the maxima but it's normal. Motor mounts are not electronic.

Ok. thats what I was hoping. I visually inspected the motor mounts and they all look good, no rubber leaking out or cracks. Thanks for the tips

Default Re: How Much Vibration Is Normal At Idle?

So I decided to give the throttle butterfly cleaning a shot, to try to reduce the minimal vibration I had.

Took the CRC throttle body and air intake cleaner, disconnected the battery, and sprayed the back of the plate down to remove all the carbon and dirt. The solvent worked well. I was careful not to touch or move the plate

Reconnected the battery, started it up, and had a high idle around 1200 rpm. Wouldnt go away. Went for a drive, came back, and CEL (Presumably due to high idle)

Then I started in on a panic, omg I destroyed the throttle body despite reading eddy's comic and warnings.

Tried the idle air relearn and ECU CEL reset procedure. Took many tries, but I got it. The idle relearned, CEL is now gone, and it idles at a solid 800 rpm or so, no vibrations at all

Im assuming that over years of carbon filling the holes, the idle got out of whack when I cleaned it all out, had to do the relearn to get it back in line. I assume that it throws a CEL when it notices the idle to be too high for too long?
