If your in drive and the engine revs and doesn't move may be an indication of a problem.

I am curious too. I have been able to feel the torque converter lock and unlock around 20-25mph for years. Dealership claims that it is normal and i continue to put miles on it until it fails. Still got alot of miles and a few years left on the warranty.

Mine seems to freeze around 6,700 rpms and stay there during hard acceleration

Mine does too after releasing the gas pedal. Done it since it was new so i would assume there is a delay to increase the gear ratio. I never considered it a problem. If i take the rpm in my work van up to its red line and let off the gas, then it slams into a higher gear and the belt squeaks. I think all transmissions do funny shit under those conditions.

18mpg would be respectable for straight city driving. Not so much for highway. The average mpg can be affected by may variables and can plummet quickly if you get too happy with the gas peddle or idle at alot of stop lights or drive thru's. I may be able to get an average of 23-25mpg with mixed driving but it involves alot of restraint. My goal is to keep the rpm as low as possible and use down hill slopes and timing red lights so i do not come to a complete stop when it turns green. Sometimes pissing the person's off behind me because they are in a hurry to stop. I use the brakes as little as possible just like the gas.

I've tried all of that taking downhills no going over 2k rpms , no spirited driving , using cruse control at 60 mph

Most of my take off's are around 1200-1500rpm not always pulling away from the person next to me. Sometimes it feels like the engine is shuttering or pinging like when your going slow with a manual transmission and are in too high of a gear and want to accelerate. Pinging at a low rpm is fine while at high rpm's damage can occur. You are getting the best fuel efficiency when the load from the CVT is at its highest without stalling the engine.

Have you ever taken off a little fast then let off of the gas a little bit and the car felt like it was pulling harder. I think the car pulls the hardest at about 5800rpm.

I agree, it's definitely between 5000-6000RPM. I feel a bit if hesitation on a hard acceleration but once it finds the ratio, it moves.
