Default How Do I Read Engine Oil Dipstick?

I just changed my oil in the maxima for the very first time and when i went to check the dipstick afterwards its so freakin hard to read, where exactly is the oil level supposed to be, please note the dipstick is as follows from bottom tip to top.

Low~High >>>>then theres two knotches.

Where is the oil supposed to be exactly i feeel that the Low/high is like way too low to be checked from, is the oil supposed to be between the two knotches ?

I put exactly 4.5 quarts.

1. Notice the two markings on the dipstick labeled "L" (Low) and "H" (High). These mark the safety zone for the safe running of your engine.

2. Slip the dipstick back into the sheath and pull it right out to get a clear reading. Look at the oil level on the dipstick without wiping it off.

3. Make sure the oil level mark is between the two markings on the dipstick. If it is over the "H" marking, drain off some oil Anything below the "L" marking indicates that your car needs oil. Add more until the oil level rises between the two markings.

After you do the oil change, let the car sit for a little while so all the oil settles and you can get an accurate reading so you don't have too much oil, not good.
